Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Oct 16, 2010 6:16 pm Hi All Can anyone tell me what are allowable hole sizes that can be drilled into pine studs that are load bearing, or where I can find this information. It seems the electricians have drilled a lot of holes through studs, rather than use an extra metre of cable and run above the ceiling. A lot of holes have been drilled and haven't been used at all. Thanks Re: Hole sizes allowed in studs 2Oct 16, 2010 8:08 pm Simple terminology .... 90mm stud ... 20-25mm max hole/notch , 270mm (3x 90mm) centers between each hole/notch
If it's not to these specs don't fret, it's easily rectified with blocking. Distance between holes or notches: 3x depth of stud. 20mm notches are for bracing only, except 25mm notch for bath installation.
