Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Oct 16, 2010 8:56 am Hi All, I feel like I've been having some mixed outcomes with my builder... I'm doing a custom build and was sold on quality being a key differentiator. Some poor examples include:- [*] studs at 600mm, when we specified 450mm on plans, [*] insulation being sliced and diced due to ordering mistakes, that I had to go back over it myself to fill numerous gaps, [*] no expanding foam around window frames - did it myself [*] The workmanship was rough on the frame and an independent inspection picked up numerous problems. Each time I raise a point with the builder his first reaction is to belittle my opinion and attempt to bully me. If he was just open to admitting a mistake, I'd be more inclined to trust him like he expects... Now I feel like I cannot even ask question without being concerned he will do his block again and use his multitude of tactics to make our build process difficult and more expensive. I welcome any general advice, but my specific question, is I have noticed the brick work leaking in the garage and not sure if this is normal? I can only assume it is leaking between the bricks and internal walls also... Its not like a river, but if as planned i put shelving against the wall, stuff would get wet and go mouldy. The brick is a split face brick. There is no cavity in the garage on one wall, which I'm referring to. I therefore assume it is also running down where there is a cavity.
