Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Sep 21, 2010 2:56 pm Hi all Just checked out my ceilling & walls like some on the forum you can see the joins. Not the most pleasing of finishes. Is it due to average workmanship or what they like to call glancing light. They look fine in day light (non critical light) but as soon as you turn on the light you can see all joins. If you to have a few problems with visable joins check this site out. Has some good info on plaster and finishes and what you can do about it. http://www.lafargeplasterboard.com.au/d ... _Light.pdf Cheers to all KW.............. “It's just as unpleasant to get more than you bargain for as to get less” George Bernard Shaw. Why & what you can do about it. 3Sep 21, 2010 3:21 pm Eve I think a coat more would help some for sure. However, it seems plaster is hard to get 100% smooth as the artical surgests. I did not think it was an issue many others also have. I will also try peal light globles. Most project builders will put the minimum paint on a home anyway. Why & what you can do about it. 4Sep 21, 2010 5:48 pm Hi KW, My builder actually gave me a photocopy of an article on "critical light" when I did my PCI. Basically the joints are more visible in side-on light as you have said. The article suggested the use of light shades to prevent light from going across the ceiling from the bulb (if that makes sense). Re: Visable plaster joins. Why & what you can do about it. 5Sep 22, 2010 1:43 pm Hi grom Yes, Im sure thats why some builders give you free light shades, so you dont see the plaster joins. Not much we can do about it thats dry wall plaster. The critical light factor can also show up the joins in carpet so I will plan to keep the joins away from the windows. It was taken at night under artifical light. Has anyone elles got joins like this? http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x43 ... Ask the builder to get the plasterers back to fix immediately!! Re: Visable plaster joins. Why & what you can do about it. 10Oct 01, 2010 10:57 pm What they said that is I went outside once. I've brought it up with our builder, and the response is basically, yeah, you get that. They really brush it off and they won't fix it. My peeve is more with the little patch up jobs here and there where tradies have taken chunks out with ladders or tools, then the site supervisor patched it up. They have only done a base coat, to set the paper tape. There should be another 2 coats ontop of that! Re: Visable plaster joins. Why & what you can do about it. 13Oct 03, 2010 1:16 pm Hi all Thanks for your kind replies. The problem is you can only see it at night time, its not visable in day light. Its a real pain and a dissapointment. Its a bit hard to show the builder in day light. I guess I can show him the photos.
