Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Aug 19, 2010 1:33 pm Apologies in advance, because I know this has been covered somewhere - but I put the words door, top and paint into the search engine and got a million possible posts - (well, not quite a million) I noticed today that the tops and bottoms of my internal doors are not painted. It's my understanding that they should be so that moisture doesn't get into the doors - is this right?? Is there some sort of rule that says that this is what must be done?? Thanks for any help... P. Re: Painting of internal doors.. 2Aug 22, 2010 5:29 pm I have a sticker on each of my new Hume doors that state "paint or seal entire door including top & bottom rails. Otherwise guarantee void." It also says in further detail "...Must be properly sealed and painted two (2) coats sealer/undercoat then finishing coats - semi gloss recommended". Hope this helps. Andy Re: Painting of internal doors.. 3Sep 14, 2010 10:17 am Hi, After having the Dept of Fair Trading out regarding this issue - their ruling was as follows - According to the Standards and Tolerances all the leaves of the door must be 'sealed' - they don't necessarily have to be painted, it can just be a primer coat. However if the builder does not paint them (according to the manufacturers warranty) and they warp then the builder has to replace the door. Hume doors, do say paint top and bottom. Mrs Rose you actually had the D OF Fair Trading to your home to look at the doors? Sometime we have to let go in order to hang on. 500ml of paint and a $2 brush problem solved. What pisses me of is why dont they just paint the bloody top & bottoms? Cheap scate painters thinking if they dont paint all the doors they may save $5. Sad, what happened to the real trades MEN. Its more of an insult than a ripp off. Most doors come primed, Ive not seen a tin of undercoat or primer on any new house or in a skip yet. Spray or roll on: Most spray the paint on as it saves time & money, more water less paint. Rolled is a much better result. GEt them back to paint the top and bottoms. Guide to B standards & T. and manufacture says it must be done. Okay, then the choice is really about the build quality of the door itself which means the brand name. Sorry I can't recommend one or the other so best to rely on comments… 5 3258 Thanks. Yeh ideally that would have been good, but have progressed too far now. Hoping some well placed internal walls fixed up into the battens will provide some… 2 5402 Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7933 |
