Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Aug 09, 2010 6:04 pm Hi All, We have recently bought a house and are doing some quick reno's. Just noticed that at some point, one of the tenants this house had (used to be a rental) had built their own patio out the back. When they did it however the put the wooden posts directly into the ground. Since then they have been infested slightly with termites and at some point treated and the termites killed (none active). To prevent this however what would be the best way to pu them in? The main problem is the post are lowered to the concrete and then a second peice of wood is just bolted to the supports which in turn is in the ground (pic attached). There are three support posts like this. Eventually we will be knocking this section down but in the meantime would like to just fix this small problem. (hmmm, can't attach a picture so link to it here: http://www.runway12.net/Supports.jpg) EDIT: Sorry, not the best picture but you get the idea. Cheers, Shags Re: Decking poorly done - Posts directly into ground 2Aug 11, 2010 8:04 am Temporarily support the structure and cut the post off at about 100 mm above ground level Dig out existing post in ground attach a striup to post and concrete in Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Building Standards; Getting It Right!
