Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jun 26, 2010 5:21 am Hello all, Recently I had a Air conditioner contractor install 2 split cycle 3.5 kw air conditioners. I'm familiar with the basics of house electrics and after inspection the install wiring looks a bit sus. The electrician is running 2 x 3.5 kw splits with a 20 meter run off 2.5 mm wiring and has the two units running off of the one breaker. My way of thinking is that if one unit fails and trips this will disable the use of the 2nd unit. I paid top dollar for the install and used a well known air conditioner installer. Should each unit have its own cable and breaker as specified in the installation manual or is this method of piggy backing the two units common practice? Thanks for any info Re: Piggy back Air conditioners 2Jul 19, 2010 4:20 pm My whole house has split systems and only 2 circuit breakers for 6 a/c units. No idea bout the wiring, but by your own admission, you used a reputable a/c installer. Trust them. If there is a problem down the track, get them back to fix it.
