Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Apr 09, 2010 7:33 am Hi, Been asked by building surveyor to build 600mm high (3 sleepers) and 12M long retaining wall on a slopping site soon after site cut. Can I use Red Gum 2.4M/200mm/75mm sleepers with uprights apart 2.4M ? Is the uprights centres good enough or should I use Treated Timber 3.0M with Uprights 1.5M apart? Thanks! Re: Timber retaining wall 2Apr 09, 2010 8:13 am My personal preference would be to use H4 treated pine for the whole thing. If you use 2.4m sleepers then go 1.2m centres for uprights or if you go 2.7m sleepers then have uprights at 1.35m centres. Also if you remember might be worth staggering the joins in the sleepers too. 1st course start at 1st upright, 2nd course start at 2nd upright then back to 1st course. Uprights in the ground at least 600mm too (that's what I'd do anyway). Good luck looks ok to me, round logs retaining walls are better than sleeper walls, more even preservative treatment and stronger since they include the whole tree and not just part… 1 2605 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5197 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16159 |
