Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Aug 12, 2009 8:36 pm What does "Inviolation of 4386.2.1996" mean? This is again regarding ventilation for my rangehood. And I had an email saying that they think it's inviolation of 4386.2.1996 I think it's in relation to our lack of ducting. We have a vent in our brick work which is 5m away from our canopy rangehood. There is no roof space because we're in a double storey house ...but there is a little bit of space between the kitchen ceiling and the floor for upstairs. I think the issue is with the lack of ducting from the rangehood to the external vent but I can't be sure. Those code numbers were from someone trying to help me, but those numbers don't mean anything without a description. Who would know what that building code/ regulation stands for? I just need some solid ammo/evidence to present my case to PD/SS tomorrow so that we get ducting done properly. Re: URGENT - What does "Inviolation of 4386.2.1996" mean? 3Aug 12, 2009 8:50 pm I got that website too when I googled it. It's a website that sells ducting...so I don't know how right they are or how much of the code they are quoting...iykwim. If there is a builder here or someone who can look up the code for me...I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! Re: URGENT - What does "Inviolation of 4386.2.1996" mean? 6Aug 18, 2009 10:11 am overwhelmed - are you saying that there is no ducting between the rangehood and the wall grill (that is 5m away)? Pages 24 and 25 of the standard cover the ducting requirements. I learnt something new today - there is a standard that covers kitchen installations! It was not that exciting a read though. Re: URGENT - What does "Inviolation of 4386.2.1996" mean? 7Dec 28, 2009 4:18 pm New code requirement state that range hoods must be ducted to the outside of the house. No loner can they be ducted to the roof space of not ducted. is this the case?
