Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jun 06, 2009 7:09 pm I am building a new home in Warner, QLD and would like to konw what the maximum fall allowed in a driveway is. Is it 1 meter fall over 3 meters. Thankyou Re: steep driveway 2Jun 08, 2009 12:11 pm A fall of 1:3 (18 degree slope) is really really steep. Got a good handbrake? I would be looking at about half that.....1:6 (9 degrees) as a maximum. Pat. Re: steep driveway 3Jun 08, 2009 3:41 pm Thankyou Pat for your response. We tried today and could not get a car into the garage so it is back to the builder for us. Thankyou. Re: steep driveway 4Jun 15, 2009 9:44 am The maximum allowable standard within Brisbane City Council is 1:4. Check with Moreton Bay Regional Council on their standards. Also check you original signed contract drawings and what driveway grade is demonstrated on the plan. Your builder might have built your slab at the wrong level with respect to the road level so this should be further investigated. Re: steep driveway 5Jun 15, 2009 3:37 pm Thankyou for your response and yes I have found that it should never have been passed on the plan. Still working on a resolution. Thankyou Re: steep driveway 6Jun 28, 2009 12:23 pm This topic has possibly been resolved but for others . . . . Ramp grades (residential) in general should be 1 in 5. (Check with your local Council for variations under their planning schemes) The bigger issue is 'transition' zones which should be in the order of 1 in 8 I.e. from footpath gradient (1:20) to driveway gradient & from driveway gradient to garage (level) gradient to prevent "bottoming' out of vehicle.
