Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 May 27, 2009 5:12 pm Could someone advise me on how much overhang I can have on the decking over the main beam. replacing an old deck with treated and think the deck is a bit to narrow and would like to extend the cross members over the main beam without having to use supports from the main uprights. I suspect it will depend on what size cross members I use over the main beam. I hope I have used the building terminology correctly. please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks again. Just found this post. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7477 Which states 2100mm. Can I go more with a larger cross member.??? Re: Decking overhang. 2May 27, 2009 7:23 pm I assume you are talking about joists?? It depends on the size of the joist itself, generally they are 90x45 or 140x45 treated pine - measure them and also the span from the face bearer (timber the joist sits on and is perpendicular to) the the next bearer back Re: Decking overhang. 3May 28, 2009 7:46 am Dukekamaya I assume you are talking about joists?? Re: Decking overhang. 5Aug 30, 2009 7:45 pm sorry for the gravedig but You will have to consult the relavant span tables for the product you intend to use to determine the allowable cantilever(overhang). Ask the timber supplier they should have a information sheet on the product. In the end, two pieces of treated timber (20mm thick) were bolted onto the joists and planed when there was too much sticking out. Passed inspection. 13 7725 Thanks Ardo, they are sort of semi concealed. I think it is only a few millimetres. I see if they can adjust the hinges. 4 3765 Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10940 |
