Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Feb 02, 2009 10:33 pm Hi can anyone tell me if the ridge capping over colorbond roof, is meant to be cut in to match the wave of the roof, or is meant to be flat?
We had ours installed today, and so far, its flat... we think water would be able to blow up inside there in a strong wind. It doesnt look like they have bent the roof sheets over at all under the capping, and some of our sarking is layed the wrong way, so any water would flow onto our ceiling. -Sha Re: Colorbond Ridge Capping 2Feb 03, 2009 8:07 am The ridge capping doesnt need to be cut like you say unless it is a cyclone prone area from my understanding. The end of the sheets need to be bent back before the capping goes on. This should be done every where. Sarking should be laid in a way where it alows water or condensation to flow into the gutter. Re: Colorbond Ridge Capping 3Feb 03, 2009 8:30 am Thanks Borg,
We have just contacted our builder who is sending the roofers out this morning to fix the problems.. Thanks again -Sha Re: Colorbond Ridge Capping 4Feb 11, 2009 8:31 pm borg The ridge capping doesnt need to be cut like you say unless it is a cyclone prone area from my understanding. Wrong... All ridge capping should be profiled to the roof, regardless of cyclone area or not... Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: Colorbond Ridge Capping 5Feb 12, 2009 8:43 pm thanks for comments:)
It has all been cut in to follow the profile of the roof now.. but we are still waiting for the sarking to be 'lapped' the right way in one part of the roof, and we have humps on the ends of our gables, that doesnt look right. The 'new' SS will go to site on Monday with the roofers to discuss what will be done. -sha Re: Colorbond Ridge Capping 8Feb 19, 2009 7:35 am nomad chuth77 Wrong... Thats actually incorrect, ridge capping doesn't need match the profile of the roof which is known as scribing by the way. I think you will find it just depends on what the local practice is in the area some plumbers do it others don't. As far as wind category's go im not sure if cyclonic areas need to or not. It sounds like they have taken the easy option Sha, good job following them up on it. I am glad someone cleared that up. According to what I have read in the past it was only required in cyclone areas to prevent left up. Dont remeber whewre i read it. It may have only been a victorian pape. We have a Victorian style ripple iron fence out the front that has some moulded timber capping. Probably 15+ years old and has cracked and splintered in parts...not really… 0 2492 Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10214 Hi all, Our boundary perimeter fences need replacing (3 sides). From everyone's experience, what would you install? Timber lapped and capped OR colorbond? Thank you. 0 2886 |
