Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jul 22, 2024 1:35 pm We're looking to extend water to the side of the house that has no garden taps. We've been offered two options, one is to run the copper pipe along the side of the house attached to the brick, and the other is to dig a trench and bury the copper pipe. Going to dig the trench ourselves as we'd rather not have the pipe visible. The suggestion was to dig a trench directly to the side of the slab (and go around existing pipes), and if we do that it wouldnt need to be deep (100mm was the suggestion) as there's nothing that will run over it. Is there any risk with digging next to the house slab? Any risk of digging shallow? Is it worth backfilling with any material in this case, if so, what would be the ideal material? Re: Trench next to concrete slab / foundation 2Jul 22, 2024 3:21 pm Make sure you don’t dig below footing base level, so you don’t undermine your foundation. Also the backfilling of trench need to allow for stormwater to drain away from building as per the BCA. Not likely. A 20-year-old concrete slab should still be structurally sound unless it’s showing major cracks, sinking, or significant wear. If it’s just cosmetic wear,… 1 16153 Hi all, It appears they have cut and jackhammered the house footing for a service they were planning to run? Will there be any potential structural issues?
