Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Nov 01, 2008 8:25 pm Hi all,
New member here fresh from Yankland. I've been coming to Oz for a dozen years and now live in NSW. I've noticed a large difference in home wiring standards. In the US each switch, powerpoint, light fixture or fan has a junction or mounting box and the fixture screws into the box. I know most of the reasons for this on the US end, but does anyone know why things are the way they are here? I've looked at light switches and wall sconce lighting fixtures and found that they're mounted to holes in the drywall. Thanks for all the tips on the forums...I have a heap to learn. Re: Electrical Standards Question 2Nov 01, 2008 8:39 pm Welcom nanook, you'll be having lots of fun here not just learning new things.
BTW, spent 3 weeks in the eastern states touring NY, Boston & Washignton a couple of months ago. Just love that part of the world. Re: Electrical Standards Question 3Nov 01, 2008 9:00 pm Thanks for the welcome...hopefully you toured before the Aussie dollar tanked. That part of the US is beautiful, but I was from the great midwest...a suburb of St Paul, Minnesota. Took my Aussie wife to Boston for our honeymoon.
Another question. Is it feasible to just change water tanks on older toilets, or are the older designs dependent on the bowl for the total flush? It seems much more difficult to change a toilet here than I was used to (the bowl drain has a cement plug into the main drain-that doesn't look like fun to replace). Building Standards; Getting It Right! Don't think they are designed for double brick. WA has a particular way of building and unfortunately that's the way a large amount of sills are finished. 3 7004 I believe this is correct. From the picture you can see the power was put in last so the electrician knew where the water was. Really it's a common sense issue more… 4 5152 |
