Re: Need to Waterproof Hebel Panels if Garage Part of Dwelli 2Apr 02, 2022 12:00 pm MelBr We currently have an external boundary wall for a garage that has used un-rendered Hebel Panels. However it should be noted that this is not a separate garage, but instead the garage is part of the dwelling next door (ie there is an interconnecting door between the garage and the interior of the house, and there are internal plasterboard walls between this garage and the internal spaces of the dwelling opposite it). I'm curious if the garage would be classified as a Class 10a structure or Class 1 structure in this situation. In regards to rendering / weatherproofing / waterproofing these Hebel Panels (as per the National Construction Code), is there any obligation / requirement to do this in this situation? I note the following in Part 2.2 (Damp and Weatherproofing) of Section 2 (Performance Provisions) of the National Construction Code (Building Code of Australia) Volume 2, but still would like to hear an opinion on whether the above external Hebel Panel boundary wall would need to be weatherproofed: Functional Statement: F2.2.2 Weatherproofing and dampness A building is to be constructed to provide resistance to moisture from the outside and moisture rising from the ground. Limitation: F2.2.2 does not apply to a Class 10 building except where its construction contributes to the weatherproofing of the Class 1 building. P2.2.2 Weatherproofing A roof and external wall (including openings around windows and doors) must prevent the penetration of water that could cause— (a) unhealthy or dangerous conditions, or loss of amenity for occupants; and (b) undue dampness or deterioration of building elements. Limitation: P2.2.2(a) does not apply to a Class 10 building except where its construction contributes to the weatherproofing of the Class 1 building. I was looking at different options for a fence for my build and Hebel PowerFence seemed like a good option (one of the criteria was a solid wall look). However, I don't… 0 5896 1 6624 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6191 |
