Hi all. I am an electrician with 30 years experience and wanting to finally go out on my own as an Electrical Contractor.
Doing a bit of market research before i jump but my idea is ;
During my establishment phase, while my wife is still studying (4 years), I would like to 'market my skills' to owner builders and renovators with the emphasis on "personal service" at a time that suits you, the customer.
My thought is to build a client base while maintaining my current employment. THE ADVANTAGE to the client is I work with you outside of normal working hours in the late afternoon/evening or weekends and you get the flexibility to be present, and are witness to the quality of work as it is installed, and gain a sense of ownership of the install.
I would also then be available as required as the project progresses at your speed, again providing a 'personal service' without the wham bam thank you mam push that many larger firms may require.
All hours agreed at standard ($80/hr), not after hour rates as the working hours would suit myself as well as you, the customer.
MY QUESTION TO THE FORUM, does this sound like something that would be beneficial to the 'owner builder' mentality.
Any feedback good or bad would be appreciated
