I'm Andrei from Romania, i'm 30 years old, not married, a hotel receptionist and (hopefully) a house owner in a year or two!
I'm researching everything house-related on the internet, as i actually know nothing about the subject. All i know is that i always lived in an apartment and i always wanted to have my own house with a yard and trees and space for outdoor activities. I am living in a nice little city (30k people), surrounded by hills with a few small villages, and all of this is at the base of a mountain. So, i want to buy a plot of land in one of the villages, because they are really quiet, the scenery is amazing, the price of the land is really small, and it's a 10 minutes drive from any of the villages to the city (i work in the city). And on that plot of land i want to build a small house, only one floor or a floor and a half with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, living-dining-kitchen, one car garage and a patio. Around here all the houses are brick, but i am looking into wooden or steel prefab homes, or even straw bale. Of course these options are very rare in my country, but prefabs with wooden structure started to pop up more and more in the last year. Oh, and i want to use renewable energy, there are not a lot of winds here, but i'm going to use solar cells on the roof to power my home.
So the internet has been great, i am trying to find the best plans by researching the house plans websites, and i also love the interior design websites, i'm a huge Houzz fan. And, for the last year i started using Chief Architect and i started creating my own house plans. That's one of the things that am sure about my first house, that i'm not going to just buy a plan, i want to create it myself.
Well, so lately i felt like if i will start building my house tomorrow i will do a lot of mistakes because i know nothing about the subject, so i started to look for a forum or an online community where you can learn stuff and discuss stuff related to the subject. That's how i found you guys, and after reading a few things i realized that your forum is the best, and i decided to join, even though i'm not from AU.
So, here i am! Just wanted to say hi, and to thank you in advance for all the things i'm going to learn here. And please pardon my writing mistakes, as English is not my first language. Have a good day, everybody!
