I am a newly wed, but have been living with my partner in a one bedroom apartment (that we own) for the last 3 years. We have decided it is time to make a home for ourselves and start thinking about catering for kiddies. We am in Melbourne and we will be going from pure city living to the burbs - Werribee (where my husband grew up). My FIL is a concreter and wants to build our new home. We have created our own plans, and are just waiting on a draftie to confirm that it can be built on the land we are looking at - and then the fun can begin! I look forward to spending a whole lot of time on this forum over the next 18 months! Re: Introductions Please! 123Apr 25, 2009 6:25 am Hi All, Francesca here, total newbie to this forum but I suspect I will be visiting quite often. Wanting to build a new home, looking for a company to build for us in the Warringah Shire area, Sydney. Any advice would be most appreciated, so if you have used a company you thought was great in service, price and quality let me know...I know, big ask! Re: Introductions Please! 125May 09, 2009 7:04 pm Hi, I'm Sonya my husband and I are building a new home to have a bit more room for 3 growing teenagers, in Toowoomba. I am so thankful for this site. I have spent hours looking at homes and pictures and advice on different things, am learning a lot. I also feel a bit more relaxed now about our own colour selection. We should own our land this week, then off to sign up with our builder next Saturday. I'm EXCITED. A family member recently lead me to believe it may actually be possible for me to get a foot in the proverbial (door that is ), so I've been putting in hours worth of personal research sussing out my options. I'm not well-off my any means, but am anticipating a decent lump sum before the end of the year which will obviously help my cause. I'll keep this brief and no doubt will see ya'll round the boards over the coming weeks. Thanks for having me too Re: Introductions Please! 127May 13, 2009 5:58 am Welcome GreenNooby!! All the best with your quest, if you have any question there is a huge amount of knowledgeable people in all areas of life in here. And since you and I are the early birds…….I’m the first to say, have fun, the forum is a great place! I'm afraid I shall be picking everyones brains for some time to come yet. Although as a forum addict from elsewhere, I'm sure I'll hang around long after my green-ness wears off and pass on my learnings! Re: Introductions Please! 129May 14, 2009 3:30 pm Hi Everyone, Just found this forum today, very pleased with myself . After only reading for about 1/2 hour I had already learnt so much! I have always harbored a dream to be an interior designer and have been collecting magazines and ideas since the 90s in preparation for this day and it's finally here!! The house we have purchased is mostly renovated so the only changes that we will make are purely to suit my style rather than the previous owners. The first floor is quite modern but the 2nd needs an update (the 80s country styling in the bathrooms has GOT TO GO!!). Bathrooms are my thing so they will be the first thing to change. Budget will be the big problem though as my tastes tend to be rather expensive Re: Introductions Please! 132May 25, 2009 8:42 am Hi everyone, I've been lurking for over two months, but finally have the courage to post an intro. Building my first home in regional Victoria with Hotondo. They have been great and helpful so far. My hobby is cooking so i wanted to get the perfect kitchen *wishful thinking* since i will spend most of my waking time at home in it. Can't wait to finally stop renting and being able to get a dog. I really like german shepherds an- (oh wait, sorry the pet forum is in the next section). Re: Introductions Please! 133May 25, 2009 10:14 am Welcome to the forum novotel. My name is Kristi and we are building in Logan, SEQ. My family currently live in a 2 bedroom granny flat on 1500m2, which we built through a private builder approx 1.5 years ago. At that stage we had a 1.5year old. Now we have a 3 year old, a 1 year old and another due in September . So we are seriously outgrowing this house. We have signed a prelim tender with Stylemaster (modified Calypso 27)and hoping to get back our fixed price tender with drawings by the end of this week. We have a long way to go yet in regards to getting planning permission through council, a town planner will be involved, and we have been told that could be a lengthy process (3-6 months). I'm loving this forum! Everyone seems very friendly and helpful and I'm getting so many new ideas. Looking forward to seeing you all around the boards. Love Kristi Living the dream. 4 horsey acres in the country. What's the next project??? Re: Introductions Please! 136Jun 22, 2009 5:59 pm Hi, I thought I'd better introduce myself. My name is Ari and my husband, Scott. We live outside of Darwin, on 5 acres. We have finished building our house almost 2 years ago and now, madly landscaping and doing bits and pieces around our property. Still lots of work to do and since we are doing most things ourselves... it will be a long way away before we have everything the way we want to. I am working as a drafter these days... part time with kids. My husband, Scott, is a mechanical engineer. We are both mad gardeners and planning to establish our own botanical garden in our property. Good to find you guys... Regards, Ari Ari & Scott Darwin, NT Re: Introductions Please! 137Jul 02, 2009 1:46 pm Hello...time to finally introduce myself. I'm Michelle and my partner's name is Nick. As everybody else, I lurked around this site (which was/is a massive help with building etc...couldn't survive without it lol) before actually making a post. We're building our first home in Wallara Waters, Wallan, VIC and are extremely excited!! We look forward to sharing stories with you all. Re: Introductions Please! 140Jul 05, 2009 7:38 pm Hi all,
Just love this forum, full of such great advice and friendly people! We have just commenced the build of our very first home in central west NSW. Originally we were looking at 5 acres out of town and living in a shed house for a few years til we could afford the dream house....but life has a way of complicating things, so now wtih baby number 3 well on the way (due Mar 2010) we have just started building in town instead. Our 850sqm block is very different to the 5 acres we wanted but I think it is the saner thing to do at this point! Hope to be in the new house April/May. Looking forward to sharing the ride! Might I add, decision making and pregnancy, not a great mix, lol! Fingers crossed..... |
