Browse Forums Introductions 1 Jul 21, 2015 10:18 pm Hello everybody... I have recently bought a block of land in Melbourne's west, I would like to start a build in the near future and would appreciate any advice/reccomendations on what pitfalls to look out for as I undertake this daunting journey, I guarantee I'll be asking heaps of questions but I intend to go step by step, I have drawn my own house plans up which I shall post soon, I am thinking of owner building(I may be a little crazy) or using a local custom builder, look forward to chatting with some of you soon I hope, cheers Re: G'day homeone 2Jul 22, 2015 11:34 pm If you are not time poor and very keen doing research then I reckon owner building is not too bad. I am currently with a local custom builder and they are quite flexible. I had 20+ floorplan amendments without extra costs. Even during the build now, they allow me to source my own materials (like things I wanted to upgrade) if I felt theirs is too expensive. No variation fees as well. My friend was with a volume builder and he had to stick with what the builder has to offer so he his choices were always limited. |
