Hey Everybody,
I'm 23, full of ideas and perhaps about to take on a major project.
Hands-on Owner Building on the Mid-North Coast of NSW.
Just looking for ideas, like minded people, and details of people who have been there and done that.
Block in question has a frontage of ~14m and length of ~34m - Just under 500m2.
Side boundaries run east-west and a predominantly northern aspect for living (in and outdoor) areas is a goal.
Site is flood prone approx 800mm and Council requires a floor level of around 1300mm
Predominant wind direction is from the Northeast and the plan will focus on this element.
Site is an old subdivision with access only via small rear lane - crappy on street parking - must allow for some parking on-site for continence of visitors.
My idea at the moment is to complete the build in two stages.
Stage 1. Build a 6x6 shed, with bathroom/laundry fully lined insulated and bug proof this stage will also include solar panels. This will make temporary accommodation during the build, will keep my costs low - no rent, and allow me to spend all my spare time on site (site security and proactive building) as well as have the Electricity, water sewer and telephone on, which will be convenient during the main build.
Stage 2. Build the House 6mx17m ground floor 6x12m 1st floor. this approx area will allow for acceptable room sizes with careful design, as well as ample yard, which is a major factor in the build as a usable yard - accessible by car, plenty of space for a dog and heaps of other factors. At this stage I am looking for an unusual build type. I am at this stage contemplating using shipping containers for part of the building structure and would love any information that is available for using these!
That's my story at the moment anyway. Look forward to discussing your build and mine. Perhaps I can help you, I'm a Town Planner.
