found this forum whilst googling front door options for our reno job a few weeks ago and may I compliment and thank all who have responded to my queries to date (as sillly as some have been ).
I am a touch hesistant to start a thread about our adventure for a number of reasons:
- ours is not a new home...
not sure if this is what y'all are interested in...
fraid to bore you
Our home has been in our posession for 15 yrs and we are a family of 5 (and a dog). The house was build around 1900 and built onto at least 3 times (so definetely NO heritage listing - thankfully ). It also is narrowish, on a sloping block and on sand... The crunch for us to renovate came when the rusting in the metal roofing provided us with an internal water feature over our dining table during a dinner party .
Council approved our plans in 2006 and we have just recently were able to get started.

We moved out in March and are staying with my parents , a few streets away from our site...
Quick overview of past 4 months:
1 - due to some excavation requirements the builder underestimated the cost of working with sand and our underpinning cost is 240% of our budgeted amount
2 - most of the current brick walls are NOT straight so the builder is wasting a lot of time straightening them out - cosmetically
3 -the architect that measured up our house (who we are NOT using anymore) got some measurements wrong and some new rooms are smaller than I wanted ...
4 - the rainy June has now put us at least a month behind...
5-5had to submit plan amendments to council for section 96 and got hit with BASIX requirements. Hope this won't make the house totally agly
for those of you interested here is what we are trying to do but due to wrong measurements we hope that we come close!!
