I am building in sydney and just completed my electrical. I asked for 2x rg6 to lounge, family and master bedroom for foxtel and free to air and all terminating in the garage. I intend to split the antenna signal from here and have the foxtel also split from here. Would I need to amplify the signal? Re: Hello - Antenna / AudioVisual Tech from Perth 3Jun 20, 2013 10:55 pm That all depends on what Signal levels you are able to obtain in your Area. If the neighbours have ariels mounted high up, and run amplifiers, chances are you will need one too. Otherwise given the Signal is OK, only splitting to 3 Rooms, you should be fine. However you will only confirm that once an installer measures the signal. Also keep in mind. If your going to have IQ which is the norm these days, Your 2 x RG6 Cables to each room will both need to be used for Foxtel. Ideally a separate cable should be ran for Terrestrial TV so Ussually 2 x Cables to each room for Fox and another one for Free to Air. Otherwise, using just the 2 x Fox cables running to each room, you will need to Diplex (Inject/Join) The Cables coming off the Antenna Splitter, into one of your Foxtel Cables, so you have both Fox and Free to air coming on the same cable, down in the rooms, from then onward you will then require to split the signals and run additional cabling into your Foxtel Reciever and TV. If it's off a Satellite dish IQ Requires 2 Cables. Given the question asked was one that others might also want an answer to, the fact tha t you want to "pm" the poster comes across as if you wish to sell/provide your services. The forum is not an avenue for this. An Antenna requires to be installed on the roof and the existing cabling is connected to a splitter in the roof. For Dianella, a log periodic type antenna is fine, it costs normally about $200-$275 depending on who you call and which antenna they use. Remember though in some metro areas where signal is generally fine there may be bad spots in specific places that will require an amplifier or antenna mast extension that costs extra and this cant be quoted over the phone without going out and measuring signals. I am building in Melbourne and want to do pre-wire antennas such as aerial, satellite (big dish fro some overseas programming). Foxtel would come as a cable from the street. My question is how do the installers go through the flat metal roof on the 2nd storey. Is it best to leave to coiled cables somewhere under the tin or to terminate them on top of the roof (i may not install these antennas for some time if at all). Also how many RGB6/U quad do I need: 1 for aerial, 1 or 2 for the satellite? Thanks. I am sorry you are shutting down my question... on basic concept sharing. Why are you about saying it is "illegal to do antenna cabling"... in my own house? These things are not connected to anything to anything to start with. I have always installed antennas in my houses but not with metal roofs. As far as I'm aware there is no issue with homeowners installing antenna on the roof. ( The actual antenna part anyway) but any cabling which connects to a power source/ phone network is meant to be installed by a qualified technician. I suspect this also includes cabling that connects to a tv as this is a powered item. If you run it as fixed cable. ,Yes lots do it however if there is ever an insurance issue insurers can refuse to cover you. Perhaps BJ88 can tell us if this is the case. Re: Hello - Antenna / AudioVisual Tech from Perth 15Dec 16, 2013 9:40 pm If there is no in-roof access, you will have to unzip the roof sheet by sheet to run your cable, so Ideally if the roof is not on yet you can do your pre-wiring easier. Foxtel - one RG6 Cable per Room if signal source is Underground (Two if Satellite) FTA Satellite (Big Dish) - If cabling multiple rooms - One RG6 Cable Per Room and Two RG6 Cables from the location of the Dish to the Multi-Switch. If Cabling single room, one RG6 Cable from Room to Location of Satellite Dish. Antenna - One RG6 Cable Per Room Since it's a 2 story house, Pre-wire as much as you can otherwise you'll be in trouble when you need to run cables post build.
