Browse Forums Move Management 1 Aug 23, 2008 5:59 pm When we move, we won't be taking everything with us, so we need someone to come and take away certain things...
- Microwave - Fridge - Dryer - Floor lamp - Small outdoor setting And other such smaller things. What's the best way to do this? I looked in the Yellow Pages and found many skip hire ads, and also some rubbish removal companies...I wonder how much they are and if there's an easier way. (oh, and we don't drive and have no access to a garbage dump or anything to do it ourselves, and even if we did, we could never lift or move the fridge or dryer!) (oh, and lastly, we can't have a charity like St Vinnies come and pick the stuff up cause they only come at certain times and those times are always in the mornings when we're not home, and we simply can't leave work to be at home, and we can't leave them outside for them to collect, again because we cannot move them ourselves) Thank you! Re: Rubbish/old furniture removal? 2Aug 23, 2008 6:39 pm Ebay?....I sold heaps of junk...er,,,high quality furniture ware there...if you just want to get rid of it chuck a low price on it.....I put a 99 cent start price on a old dishwasher (10 year old) and sold if for $40.

I think sometime you put it out on the verge and its gone by fairies the next day *hopes* oh you cant move them hmmm there are firms that buy old fridges etc for parts - yellow pages sometimes vinnies etc wont take stuff they can be choosy still you gave me a good idea there thanks who here drags old furniture round for teenagers to use later *this is PITA* Re: Rubbish/old furniture removal? 6Aug 23, 2008 7:42 pm Ebay - good idea. I'll give it a whirl. I'd have to put in the ad that any bidder would need to be able to lift a fridge and/or dryer! lol
Freecycle - already put some stuff on there. So far no interest. lol I think it's gonna end up being the rubbish people. I think they'll charge around $100-$150 for a job like our's. I'd have to put in the ad that any bidder would need to be able to lift a fridge and/or dryer! lol We sold one half of a pigeon pair fridge for a coupla hundred...just told them they had to pickup...no help available as I couldn't guarantee I'd be home. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Rubbish/old furniture removal? 8Aug 23, 2008 10:58 pm I just had a little look on ebay and I am going to definitely list the microwave and dryer on there. Not the fridge, but definitely the other 2 things. I think we MAY get someone to take them off our hands.
Even if we got $5 each, whatever! We don't have to pay someone to take 'em away. I've already taken some photos of them. Thanks!! Great idea! How the hell did I become a senior member!? Re: Rubbish/old furniture removal? 9Aug 24, 2008 11:23 am If the outdoor setting has some metal in it, then I'd ring up one of the scrap metal scavengers that get around & tell them to come & take your fridge & outdoor setting. Re: Rubbish/old furniture removal? 10Aug 24, 2008 12:28 pm We donated to the womens refuge they came and picked it up from us. They came on a Saturday which suited us and I also had a chap from dissability services come and pick some stuff up for some of their chalets they provide. There are many more charities that are more accomadating to picking stuff up. You may find some are just an email away. Re: Rubbish/old furniture removal? 11Sep 05, 2008 9:15 pm Hmm...
- Freecycle - no interest whatsoever and it's been 3-4 weeks since I listed the items on there - Ebay - little interest. I put the microwave and dryer and depending on their success, I'll also put a computer monitor (CRT, not flat screen, though it works fine and is only 3 years old), but I have had one question about the microwave (they asked what part of the Gold Coast I live in)...so fingers crossed. There is one person watching each of those auctions and they end in 3 days. They're listed at $2 each. lol - St Vinnies - would take them but are solidly booked for Gold Coast pick ups until mid-October, which is over a month after we need them gone. - Red Cross & Salvos - waiting on replies. *sigh* How the hell did I become a senior member!? Re: Rubbish/old furniture removal? 12Sep 08, 2008 7:56 pm Like somebody mentioned you could have had a garage sale, just stick a big sign out the front and sit in a chair and wait, then you could move other things you don't need too, such as old crockery or whatever, you never know a neighbour might even want it Re: Rubbish/old furniture removal? 13Sep 09, 2008 11:51 am Hmm…well, 2 issues there…
1. We can’t physically move the fridge or the clothes dryer, and ideally don’t want to be moving a heavy microwave and computer (not flat screen) monitor down the stairs and then up again if nobody’s interested. 2. We just don’t have the time. Every weekend is spent running around organising things. So…no! lol. Someone bought my microwave on Ebay though, today the auction ended at $2. lol. She will come and get it next week. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing!
