Browse Forums Move Management 1 Jan 03, 2015 8:49 am In wondering if anyone can offer tips to make the process smoother with building? We have recently purchased land and once its settled we will look at selling our place. It's not ideal but we need to free up the finances to then fund the building side of things. This means renting for however many months with a kid and pets. Is it worth getting a storage shed soon and then we don't have to move so much to the rental (just bare necessities)? What other tips can you share Tia Re: tips while building 2Mar 18, 2016 8:27 pm I'm a little lost on what sort of tips you are looking for, but I'll try I've just signed my build contracts, but I'm already prepping for moving. I live with my parents currently, so only have a few piece of bedroom furniture to be moved, mostly for me it will be boxes of stuff. I've been doing two things in preparation for moving, one is decluttering. I don't want to move things I'm not going to use, so I've been throwing out/giving away a lot of things. I've given away over 250 fiction books, and kept only 20. Much easier to move!! The other thing I've been doing is upgrading/replacing things I own. i.e. I got rid of my old desktop computer and sound system and got a new laptop (a lot easier to move) and bluetooth speaker. Whenever I buy something new I consider how it will be used in the new house moreso then how I am using it now. Something else I've been doing which may or may not work out to be a good idea is buying things I will need for the house, such as good quality cookware. Mostly because right now I have a bit of spare cash, and when I move I won't, and also because I will be busy enough with everything else I won't have time to research and buy things. I also don't want to move in on the first day and have nothing to cook with! I've focused this on only certain things, cookware, cleaning (I like Enjo).. I haven't bothered with linens as I don't know what colours will suit.. and I'm not buying any furniture or appliances before I move.
