Where to get moving boxes?

Hello everyone, my family and I will be moving from Melbourne to Brisbane and I am in need of good moving boxes that aren't expensive but the quality is great. I have lots of important things to keep in there and I am in a very tight budget.
I came across this site http://www.packqueen.com.au/ but they are a bit above my budget so I am hoping someone could help me on here. Thank you so much! -Hayley
I personally wouldn't pay for moving boxes but maybe I'm a bit tight lol

Try places like hardware stores, your local supermarket and liquor outlets; if you ask nicely they will either put boxes aside for you or let you raid their recycling area. Another option is to find a friend/family member who works in retail or an office, they may also be a good source of boxes. Option number three is to advertise on this forum for anyone in the region you are moving from who may have recently moved into their home and have some boxes going begging.

Good luck with the move
I got my boxes from Kennards. After you have moved they will buy the boxes back so it only costs a couple of dollars a box.

If you buy boxes they are a standard size which makes them easier to stack. or more info see http://www.anewhouse.com.au/2012/03/removal-boxes/
Gumtree might be a shot I've seen them there before - we're sort of moving twice so we are actually storing our boxes
. Once we're done we'll be putting them up on gumtree "free to good home".
I sold many at a garage sale.
I got boxes from bunnings. They are only single-walled but fairly cheap. They are also not that strong - which doesn't bother me as I am only moving 1 km

I looked into some of these online services that deliver boxes, but none of them could deliver over the Christmas break when I was trying to get much of my packing done.

At our garage sale I had a few out with the other junk (oops ... good stuff) ... and this woman just asked if we had more - so look for a house where they have just moved in.

She bought about 15 or so from us. And paid a good price.
Buy the ones from the different moving / storage companies, but stick with the one brand so that they are ALL the same size of the type, i.e. all the small boxes are the same and all the big boxes are the same.

When everything is the same standard size, it makes oh-so-much easier to move.

Whilst they do charge more than what I believe they should, you can't beat buying the boxes intended for the purpose.
I agree that buying boxes for the purpose is definitely worthwhile. Trying to stack boxes of mismatched sizes can be a nightmare and generally if they have been used before, the strength of the box is reduced. Try to think of the cost as a worthwhile investment in the safe transport of your belongings and incorporate it into the overall cost of your interstate move.

As an experienced removalist, the best tip I can give is to have a couple of different sizes of boxes (smaller ones for heavy items like books, bigger ones for lighter items like bedding), when packing them, be sure to fill right to the top, that way they can be stacked without risk of collapse.

I always found the boxes from here http://www.visy.com.au/packaging/cardboard-boxes/ to be great quality and reasonably priced.
I've used BoxnGo before. Worked out cheap enough, delivery was fast, boxes are good quality.
If you really want to avoid paying for moving boxes you can nearly always find them (and other various packing materials) on Gumtree. Go to their homepage, scroll down to the bottom and there is a category there called Freebies, I've nearly always found cardboard boxes here.
Hi,

I have always hated paying for boxes as we only need them for one time use.

Last time we moved, from Sydney to Brisbane we uses http://backloadingremovals.com.au and they supplied the boxes free

Then collected them after we had unpacked, easily the best way to go
I must be a tight a.r.ss lol.. I have NEVER paid for cardboard boxes. Always get mine from the recycle cages that most shopping centres have. And as far as them being different sizes well... Most of the time I have lots of items that simply don't fit or need the same size boxes. Boxes are boxes and they will all pack in around each other no matter what the size.
