Browse Forums Move Management 1 Sep 28, 2009 8:33 pm We live in Melbourne & have a mortgage, we wanting to move to north qld.i would like to put our melbourne house for rent and buy a house up north to live in. i'd like to know where do you start? we'd have to find jobs, but if we start new jobs we may not be able to buy a house up north, due to not enough employment history. so should we buy whilst we still have our current jobs and then move later? should we buy over there and rent it out for a while and then move? there's so many things to consider, its a bit overwhelming to know what to do first. Re: Tips on Moving Interstate 2Nov 10, 2009 4:25 pm I have used my current job to get finance and bought a property in QLD whilst I was still in Victoria. Then again renting gives you the flexibility to change plans. If it was me I would sell and be cashed up, but thats just me as I hate having the stress of worrying about bloody tenants Where in QLD are you thinking? Re: Tips on Moving Interstate 3May 19, 2011 3:51 pm Hire a company that specfically do interstate removals such as iMOvers http://www.interstateremovalists.com.au/ Dont hire some * business that claim to do interstate removals but dont advertise it, you can trust them and their prices could be very inflated! Re: Tips on Moving Interstate 4May 19, 2011 8:44 pm I have previously moved from Perth to Cairns (and back to Perth again). The other half made sure he had a job to go to and I found one once we got there. We did not even have a house to go to, vacancy rates were so good that we had a rental place within 2 days of arriving. We rented there for 6 months at first just to find our feet, then bought a place - the benefit of that was that you get to know the best areas to live before buying and you learn where everything is, so you can make sure you are in a location/street that suits you. I was very happy we did it that way, because it is not until you live somewhere that you learn the good suburbs from the bad... Having helped numerous customers just like you move from Melbourne to Queensland, I can dispense a few tips that could help make the process a bit more stress free. If you're keen to keep your house in Melbourne and rent it out, I would recommend that you also rent in Queensland while you find your feet, get new jobs and settle into life up north. That way, when it comes time to buy, you'll have more of an insiders knowledge about where you want to buy and the current state of the market and also you would have some employment history behind you when applying for that mortgage. As for the actual move, if you're after a cheap but reliable option - self pack container removals are a great option. You receive an empty shipping container at your house, pack it yourself over a number of days or weeks, it gets picked up, moved to your new location, where you then unpack it at your own pace. This method is much cheaper than a full service removals company and you're the one in charge of your own belongings so you're not worrying about some slap-dash removals company not taking care of your things.
