Tips for moving with pets?

My vote is for the Feliway diffuser also. I have 5 cats that I have moved house with and this really helps. Remember that the suggestions on having your kitty in one room to begin with and then gradually introducing them to the rest of the house (and keeping them inside for 2 weeks) is for their own safety and wellbeing.
Imagine being that little and transported to say...city central and trying to find your way around. Kitty may cry and try their best for you to give in but doing what has been suggested is for their own good. I find butter on the paws when they are let outside works well too as well as having a piece of my clothing like a jumper that I have worn in the same room with kitty's bed when you move.
You definitely need to keep them inside for a few weeks. It's just not worth the risk. Our cat is an indoor cat and is confined to an outdoor area- we have one of these, which keeps her safe http://www.catsafe.com.au/ We will be putting it into the new build as well. When we moved into the rental she was pretty upset for around 5 days but then her behaviour and mood went back to normal.
I wrote a blog post recently about moving your pets interstate in Australia which has some information and tips you may find useful. http://www.budgetselfpackcontainers.com ... -australia
Pets should always be considered like a human family member too. They have feelings as well even if we fail to notice on an obvious scale. Hence, we need to know that they too, need to adapt to changes. Therefore, we need to settle them down at the new environment and provide them with moral support so that they can easily adapt quickly without having any negative impact on their animal lives.
Hey, I hope your move went well with your cat. For anyone moving interstate with a pet and wanting more info about that... I wrote a blog post about the topic https://www.budgetselfpackcontainers.co ... -australia. Many of the tips are applicable for any move.
