My understanding of feng shui is not a cleansing thing - it is more a case of design and layout which encourage good energies. Are you sure your not after a witch and pot of boiling broth Suggest yo have party, move in, move things around till it feels right And as for Ash an all he could comup with. Did you have a case of brewers droop last night Ash Re: Cleansing the energy in a home 6Mar 01, 2008 12:14 pm I'm surprised that other people don't believe in cleansing the energy of a home. I don't think it's all that alternative.
Some houses and buildings definitely have an 'energy' or 'feel' to them - like The Old Melbourne Gaol for example. Or if you know someone has died in a room, I think it feels different. Some of it's probably mental, but I believe some of it's physical too. I did a google search and it said you can do a feng shui energy cleanse of a house by burning sage and wafting it around the place. I might give it a go when we finish painting. And when my husband's not looking, because like the rest of you, he will think I've lost my marbles . Re: Cleansing the energy in a home 7Mar 01, 2008 4:41 pm try this link ..... I know I posted an outline of a cleansing ritual on page 2.....

Don't you just hang wind chimes and all that other stuff to set the good luck and stuff in motion? When people move out, don't they normally take all their karma with them? *runs off to consult wyf's foong schwee book* Re: Cleansing the energy in a home 9Mar 02, 2008 1:38 pm Just consulted my in-house expert and she claims fire is the only true cleanser to dispel bad feelings. Sage is also a good cleanser. I suggested that Cathski may not want to run around her new house with a burning sage bush as she may set fire to the entire place, probably not the desired outcome.
After I regained conciousness (sp), she said sage oil should be burnt in all rooms of the house at the same time. If you do them one at a time, the bad mojo will move back once you go to another room. If you have 18 oil burners then great, otherwise use tea candles and drop sage oil on them and it will burn with the candle. Obviously, don't knock them over or what I said first may come true Also, found some other witch doctors opinions. http://www.redlotusconsulting.com/space_cleansing.html Quote: Sometimes a house or office can feel uncomfortable and there's no real reason you can put your finger on to explain your uneasy feeling. Other times, it's easy: someone has been there that was negative or died or was ill. Homes and spaces often take on the energy of the previous occupants as well. There may be instances when you moved into a space and just felt like someone else was there or that the space just didn't feel right. If this sounds familiar, just remember you are not alone. Many people feel uncomfortable in spaces and they can't explain why. The "why" is not important, though. What is important is that you find a way to make your space feel more comfortable so you can feel more at ease. A first step would be to perform a space cleansing. Unlike "space clearing," space cleasing doesn't rely on getting rid of clutter. However, if you have a bunch of old items and junk from previous residents or others, it is possible that some of the energy is coming from these old items. If that's the case then you should definitely take some of these things to the trash. What's more, if you have had a spate of bad luck and find that life has just been a constant struggle, it's possible that you have some negative energies hanging around that are making your house yin -- or negative in energy. This is another good instance when it might be a good idea to do a space cleansing. Space cleansing will help you feel more comfortable in your home or office and let you move on in your space comfortably and in a positive state of mind. Why bother? Because negative energy gathers and compounds, growing and will create MORE negative energy. That's why it's important to handle negative energy when you feel like your space isn't quite right. To ignore it is to cause more negative energy to build and this can impact your health, your career, your finances, and even cause depression. Regardless of why or how you feel, if your space doesn't feel quite right, consider these tips to help you clear out the negative energy in your house and invite the good energy back inside! STEP 1. Clear stale energies from the house. If you have recently moved, you might be feeling some of the residual energy from past residents. If that's your case, then consider using this technique: open everything that is closed. In short, you should open all doors, all windows, all cabinets, all boxes, anything that is closed should be open. Then, walking from the front door and in a clockwise pattern, circle each room and go into the next while ringing a bell. Be sure to ring the bell in the corners of rooms and in closets where negative energy can remain trapped. You may want to proceed through the other five steps before closing everything up again. STEP 2. Use salt to cleanse an area. Another tip is to use salt to remove negative energies. You can wipe the walls with salt or sprinklel salt into the corners of the room. Be sure to sweep up the salt and throw it into the trash outside of your house. STEP 3. Feed your ghosts rice. If you feel extreme negative energy, you can also try sprinkling rice around the perimeter of your home beginning at the front door and walking in a clockwise fashion until you come to the door again. The rice will draw the energy outside and away from the interior of your home. STEP 4. Scent the air to rid negative energies. Smoke from incense or from herbs such as lavender for transcending problems or eucalyptus for healing or mint for prosperity. The scents of incense or herbal essential oils are all excellent ways to introduct beneficial energy. STEP 5. Light and sound. Light and sound are two very effective "yang" treatments that help to dispel negative energies. Tinkling windchimes and bright crystal rainbows or lit chandeliers are both excellent ways to introduce beneficial -- and cleansing -- energy to your space. If you have done all five steps, it's time to close up all the doors, windows, cabinets, and drawers, and then proceed to Step 6. STEP 6. Take a salt bath for yourself. In the process of cleansing your home, it might also be a good idea to cleanse yourself as well. It is possible that you are bringing negative energy home from work or from the outside world. Soak in a tub with sea salt or make your own sea salt scrub and wash your body in the shower with salt. Salt will purify you and remove negative energies from your body. This is especially helpful if you work in a hostile or gossipy environment and will help you rid the energy from your body. Like this article? When the Chi energy in our home or workplace isn’t flowing properly, and has become stagnant, it can cause problems such as feelings of depression, lots of arguments, ill health, financial loss, unseen tension between people and family, feelings of frustration and lack of motivation. Do you keep dwelling on emotional issues from the past or relationship problems? If so, then it is time to seek advice about how you can help improve all the problems occurring in your life, by cleansing your residence, workplace and your aura. The reason for positive Chi energy to flow in your business is your clients/customers need to have sense of trust and harmony when spending money in your business. The longer a client/customer spends time in your business, generally the more money they will spend. The conduct of your staff also is important as their energy is reflected in their service to you and your clients/customers; if they feel disgruntled, this can affect their productivity, resulting in financial losses in your business. When moving into a new house, flat, unit or workplace, you will need to cleanse the new property or workplace because buildings absorb the energies of previous occupants. The curtains and carpets also need to be cleaned as they hold the stagnant/negative energies from previous tenants. These stagnant/negative energies can be absorbed by the people living or working within this space causing arguments, physical and mental illnesses, and relationship troubles. STEPS TO CLEANSING AWAY THE OLD, STALE AND NEGATIVE ENERGY You can request it done professionally by me the first time, when I will show you how to do complete house or business cleansing. You can do this yourself, which I’m going to fully explain here. This is the simple technique of space and energy clearing. You will need a smudge stick, sandalwood incense, an affirmation, and a packet of rock salt. The affirmation may go something like: “I enlighten this house with positive enforcement of positive thought of love and prosperity, as I banish all negative energy from this home.” Friday is the best day of the week to cleanse. A CLEANSING ROUTINE FOR YOU TO FOLLOW Begin by removing items left behind by the previous tenants that you do not wish to keep, put them out for garbage collection or give to a charity. Dust and vacuum to give a nice clean feeling. Open all the windows and doors. Put on your favourite music and let the cleansing begin. You’ll need to focus your mind on what your aim is and confirm your intentions You need to recite a affirmation in each room as you are smudging. You will need to smudge yourself first so you don’t leave or absorb negative energies when you leave. Start burning the sandalwood as the smoke begins to rise from the incense, starting at the top of your head, letting the smoke swirl around you. Move the incense around your body letting yourself be surrounded in the smoke. When you get down to the bottom of your legs, lift each foot and allow the smoke to swirl under the sole of each foot. Let the smoke absorb around every part of your body. Once you have smudged yourself, move to the front of the house and lets begin. Allow the smoke to rise and fill every corner, on every wall, over every doorway and window and in every room of the house. As you are doing this, recite your affirmation. Be sure and move the sage over, around and under furniture, as these things can hold energy as well. You should work your way clockwise motion through each room until you end up back at the front door. smudging your entire body one more time. The final step is to place a pinch of rock salt each corner of each room and this will absorb any negative energy and you need to replace the salt once a month. Some tips for keeping the home Free of Stagnant/Negative energies. Place crystals throughout the house. Place a rock salt in every corner of every room. Mist the house or workplace with Holy Water. Burn candles. Burn incense and smudge with sage. Burn essential oils or cones of incense in a simmering pot. Add fresh flowers in vases throughout your house. Say affirmations or prayers. Move furniture around every few months. De-clutter the house or workplace once every year. I work in the Brisbane area, and the Gold and Sunshine Coast, Redcliffe and Ipswich. I don’t mean with Ajax and disinfectant! What most of you don’t understand is that some of the lucky people out there CAN feel energies, and it needs to be takes seriously. Little story, have to share….I am one of the lucky people! When my ex and I went our separate ways he moved to Holland. After 6 months apart I went over for a 2 week visit, just to see if our time apart hadn’t made us feel better about each other. (no it hadn’t!!) He had a lovely 3 story unit he was leasing. From the moment I entered the unit I could feel it. He was a disbeliever….of course. After 2 weeks there and me pointing out things he had not noticed, music playing at night….but not coming from anywhere…..sounds of foot steppes coming and going up and down the timbers stairs, and more, he was just a little jittery when I left. Of course the minute I left the new girlfriend moved in!!!! It took them 4 months after I left, and they were out of there! Like a flash! They couldn’t take what was NOW becoming more obvious after my visit! I must say what I felt was not at all scary, so don’t know what their story was. So you see people….take it seriously! It does happen! By the way Cathski, I have never lived in a home that needed to be cleansed! Pm me if you need to know more. For instance, I felt the worst of worst energies in Alcatraz when I was there in the late 80's - yuk a nasty energy indeed Maybe I just avoid buying place that have bad energies, so have never felt the need to cleanse them Glad to hear that Fiona and Michelle can help if needed CLEANSING YOUR HOME 13Jun 03, 2008 5:08 pm I believe in it truly, I had a bad experience and wanted the bad energy in my home to disappear, so i did some investigating and found other than placement of furniture etc, burning sage will cleanse your home, and no you do not need to run around with a burning sage bush. funny image. Your local homewares store should stock good quality (white sage) is preferable and also they may also stock a sage cleansing bouquet which is tied together and you light that and walk around and the smoke wafts around the house, which rids your home of bad energy.
i bought an old house and went there 2 to 3 weeks and even though it was clean it smelt old, not like we owned it and it was ours so yes i cleansed and whether its mind over matter or not, i feel better the house feels like mine, it doesnt smell old, so win win really. Re: Cleansing the energy in a home 14Sep 24, 2008 10:47 pm mix glutinous rice, rice and salt(best if you can find sea salt) in a small pail.
then sprinkle them over all 4 corners of your house(land) and all the toilets. next, organise a few house warmings(parties) and invite as much families as possible preferably those who have kids and let them run/play all over the place. Re: Cleansing the energy in a home 15Sep 26, 2008 10:59 pm A little story.
We bought my grandparents house just over 10 years ago. My grandma had died in the house (natural causes). We decided to demolish the house and re-build. Since demolishing and starting our build we have had major problems (not the least being builder going broke). My sister believes I have upset my grandmother's spirit. My brother in law is Balinese. They have a cleansing ceremony which he believes we should do. Honestly, after 18 months I am beginning to believe I have upset my grandmother's spirit. As soon as we get another builder on board I really think I am going to get my Brother in law to perform that ceremony before they start. Re: Cleansing the energy in a home 16Apr 22, 2009 1:54 pm Hi, at my old house I was washing up one night and felt something brush past behind me (no one there), and then on another night I was looking in the pantry and clearly felt a hand on my waist. It was like you would if you were trying to see past someone and gently asking them to shift a bit to the right. It wasn't freaky at all (and I suffer from the heebee jeebees) so I just stepped to the side and waited a sec. I haven't told many people this. It sounds odd, but it didn't feel odd. I don't know how 'house cleansing' applies in feng shui but in my mind, it's not all that uncommon to have some sort of ritual to cleanse a new home. My friend is Chinese and as part of her culture, they have a few things that they do to cleanse the home and make it theirs. Even if there is no merit to it, it's just part of tradition. My mum likes to sprinkle Holy Water all over the house. I actually have a lot of friends who have similar traditions, my Italian friends always tell of their parents or grandparents wanting to call the local priest over to bless the house. We have just had Holly Water sprinkled throughout our house as well, by my MIL. She also said prayers and blessed the house. We also during the building stage had to do several rituals like spreading salt around the exterior to break a hex. Mrs B Re: Cleansing the energy in a home 19Apr 23, 2009 7:20 pm Prior to moving in August last year we were living in one of our rental properties. We personally knew the people who built and owned it since the 1940's - a lovely couple and their disabled daughter (who lived in a close-by institution from the time she was in her 20's until she passed away around 10yrs ago in her 50-60's). Both DH and myself were the biggest disbelievers you have ever ever ever met. One night we had sort of been toying with the idea of moving and after dinner and a few drinks I don't know why but I said to DH "Do you ever feel like there is someone else in this house besides us and the kids?" - I had never in the previous 18mths ever said anything to him (must have been the "dutch courage" talking) He turned and looked at me and said "Yep a little girl". Well I almost fell off the chair in shock. Whenever I had been in the lounge by myself I would catch sight of a little girl out of the corner of my eye walking through the hallway in a white nightie. Plus I would hear a little girl talking and would think it was our then 3yr old daughter but no she was always asleep in bed. DH had seen and heard the same things but again never mentioned them feeling silly. We weren't scared but it made our decision to move out easier. I did mention it to my mother a couple of weeks later and she said that she too had felt someone in the room with her but never saw anything. Anyhoo two months later we rented out the place again and the tenant had a friend stay over one night two weeks after he moved in. He had never met my DH but the morning after he stayed DH went over to do some odd jobs when this perfect stranger said to my husband "Do you know this house has a ghost?" DH was flabbergasted!! No longer are we disbelievers!! Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Cleansing the energy in a home 20Apr 23, 2009 7:50 pm I am a believer. ......We were renting 14 years ago while building and my son used to wake up every night saying he could hear footsteps in his room even though it was carpeted, he was terrified and so we had to leave the light on for him every night. Some time later we met the next door neighbours who used to live in our rental, she told me there was a ghost of an old man in the house and he had died in the room my son slept in. I felt so terrible for DS but couldn't tell him. I saw figures out the corner of my eye several times when I was the only one in the house. My DH was a total disbeliever, he was watching tele one night after I had gone to bed, twas about 11pm and he said the most disgusting smell hit him in the face, he said it smelt like something dead. From that moment on he believed but we had to stay there for another couple of months, it was a very tense couple of months I used to go in the bedroom and say "well come on, where are you now" mind you this only happened during the daylight hours, never at night. For a while when we moved we thought he had followed us, a couple of times we smelt weird smells, I just kept telling it to go home 10 years ago was a different software than we use now. it has had a lot of changes over the past years.
