Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 24, 2020 12:45 am Hi, I have a home theatre area which opens out to the hallway not far from the kitchen. The noise and light from the kitchen area is intrusive so I'm thinking of putting in double doors. Opening from the theatre to the hallway is quite large - 2m wide and 2.4 m high. I don't want sliding doors. Thinking of getting someone to build door frame and putting in double doors. Any ideas how much something like this could cost? Any other options? no curtains either please. Re: Doors to home theathre 2Jul 24, 2020 8:46 am 2m width would be enough to install a single cavity slider with less opening and more wall, double hinged timber doors will have to open somewhere but one could be fixed shut most of the time with the extra height filled in with a fixed panel of plasterboard or glass with glass panel doors or taller doors but, whichever style you choose, use solid core timber doors for extra soundproofing or consider a sliding double glazed sound deadening door that could be custom made to fit the space with the bottom track recessed into the floor but to achieve a quality result i'd expect to spend $4-$5000++ with several days skilled labour+? but before you add doors to teh theatre is ther anywher else that you could install a single solid core door..eg across a hallway or elsewhere Re: Doors to home theathre 3Jul 24, 2020 11:49 pm Thanks. I'm still leaning towards the double door. Intend to keep it open most of the time to give open plan ambience. Only closed when theatre is in use. There is not really an option to put a door to the kitchen area. 2m is too wide as the door will close another door when fully open. Am thinking need a very wide door frame so that the doors themselves don't have to be too big. $4-5k is a lot more than I expected so may not go ahead of that's the case. Re: Doors to home theathre 5Jul 25, 2020 8:06 am always worthwhile to ask for some quotes..don't accept my suggested price, but will be a lot more than expected due to height and width of the opening needing more than just a door hung on an existing door jamb but would make such a difference to the quality of your theatre experience Re: Doors to home theathre 6Aug 06, 2020 11:36 am Find a chippy to quote, then price the doors you want - but these can be the expensive bit.
