Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 03, 2020 1:53 am Am based in Greensborough, Melbourne and seeking the services of a reputable window supplier and installer please. Still considering timber or aluminium but leaning towards aluminium. Existing timber frames are rotting out now due to age so looking to update as soon as possible pending recommendations. Have considered the following - Trend A & L Rylock Stegbar Regency to name a few. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Re: Seeking recommendations for timber/aluminium window supp 2May 05, 2020 10:48 am Replacing timber with aluminium is best done with a window with an inline reveal as this simply slips into the opening left by the timber window. There are 2 companies who supply this style as standard, A&L, and ourselves, 'EcoEco'. Come and have a look at both, we are based near Dandenong, as is A&L. The company that uses our windows in all its replacement projects is PannaFab Windows. Thanks Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. As you are an expert on this topic, can you please suggest where I might find some independent reports, or reputable manufacturers white papers, cpds, or videos etc on line. it’s an interesting topic given global warming and the recent focus of the BCA on building energy performance in the NCC. Re: Seeking recommendations for timber/aluminium window supp 9May 20, 2020 4:06 pm Hello Norfolk I have listed below the audited WERS results for our non-broken window with all the results for thermally broken windows <Uw3.5. I have listed only clear glass results. You will see above these results the Uw for EcoEco. Why so good? We spent some time modeling our window system using the Laurence Berkley Labs softwares, Frame, Therm and Window to arrive at a best scenario for a double glazed aluminium non-broken window. Then we had the window's properties physically tested in a laboratory to make sure we had no errors. Our main focus was in restricting heat flow by reducing aluminium exposure. I will do a web search for information comparing the thermal performance of thermally broken windows vs. unbroken windows. If I find anything useful I will forward it to you for comment. Can you please send me the 'Laurence Berkley Labs' test report and the physical lab test reports that you have mentioned, or some appropriate building specifier oriented summaries of these. Can you please send me the 'Laurence Berkley Labs' test report and the physical lab test reports that you have mentioned, or some appropriate building specifier oriented summaries of these. WERS is the system which displays independently audited results of actual simulated energy performance of all windows specified in Australia, it is underwritten by the government. I gave you the full list from WERS (TB <3.5 Uw) which is not readily available so you can see the comparison between our window and the thermal break. These data are the complete story when it comes to windows. The Uw is a genuine empirical measurement and nothing can add or take away from its validity. There are compromises as in any system, but it is as accurate as you can get today - other than the physical test winch is not mandated in Australia. 16 years ago I set out to build a double glazed window based upon certain design principles and empirical data (spiel?), others used their existing system or just guessed. That is how I discovered that 12mm is the ideal gap for air and argon in a DGU. The WERS result is our data. You can Google LBL and download the software. The actual test reports make sense to specialists in the field who know how these were conducted and what standards were followed. I am sure you can Google this too. Of course if you ask any questions I will do my best to answer. Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy.
