Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Apr 11, 2019 10:57 am Hi All, Is anyone at the point of their build where all bricking has finished? If so how many windows do you need angles around? We have ended up with gaps around all windows on the ground floor except for 2 living room windows and have been told we need metal angles around every window and our stacker sliding doors. Some of the gaps are so wide you can put your fist in there. Is this normal or did we just end up with terrible bricklayers? They also used a lot of chipped bricks in our build, despite there being 3 pallets of bricks left over. Sometimes when I look at our house I get so angry with myself for choosing this builder. Mish Metal angles are a last resort. I used to run a company building several hundred townhouses and if one of my supervisors allowed this to happen they would get slapped. Some small angles can be acceptable but not every window, This means the bricklayer hasnt set out properly. With due respect they need to be pulled down. I and Houspect did not agree but in the end I had to accept angles on many of the lower Windows that were poorly set out. this is the standard they consider appropriate but it’s not acceptable workmanship. Re: Building with Wisdom Homes 6Apr 17, 2019 8:54 am Yeah this sounds like crappy trades. We have been asked specifically not to seal up our windows to the timber frames too well before bricks and fix out so that if required the chippy can come back and adjust the windows to suit the bricklaying potentially. But they mentioned adjustments in the mm’s. The windows should in theory be set at standard ‘brick width openings’ also to make it easier for the brickies to run them up flush. If not then they have to make brick cuts and will charge a bit more but supposedly no big deal still. So in summary out of all the houses we have checked out under construction by our builder I am yet to see any bricks they weren’t flush up against the window frames. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Check our Homeone build blog here Re: Gaps around windows during build 10May 03, 2019 12:11 pm Re: Gaps around windows during build 12May 03, 2019 12:34 pm Mish018 Hi All, Is anyone at the point of their build where all bricking has finished? Unacceptable. Sounds like a brickie problem, but it may be deeper. Complain to a higher level... There needs to be a packer behind that nail on the right (and every nail), between the wall frame and the timber reveal.
