Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 12, 2019 11:16 pm I'm in the market for windows for a new build in South Coast NSW. Being close to the water the temps are not too extreme so I don't know if double glazing is worth it, though I do think that sealing is important for the winds. Checking the Ai value in WERS to evaluate sealing. Is this a good performance evaluation for windows and is the WERS Ai value accurate? There are double hung and sliding which score < 1, which is great. What made me wonder is ECOECO casement windows scoring 5, which doesn't seem right. How does it get tested? Is the actual window real life tested? Will all the windows achieve close to the tested value? Especially if a profile like Bradnams/Carinya/Capral/ is being manufactured by a licensee? Hi All windows are physically tested in a NATA accredited laboratory under AS2047. This includes rain and wind consisting of negative and positive pressure. Our casement window and awning window use exactly the same profiles and seals and are effectively the same window, except that the hardware is different, the awning has a proprietary hinge where the casement uses standard hinges. The awning window is tested to N4 2400 x 2400, the casement will exceed that. The tests are type tests, so a sample is tested and the ongoing production is expected to achieve that standard. Ours will always achieve that standard as we use silicone to bond the frame and the glass. Every supplier in WERS is audited annually to verify that the window is manufactured in accordance with the tested sample. More generally, do you think that choosing a window based on the WERS Ai rating is a good metric? As a potential purchaser of your windows, I also hoped you might be able to clarify why the EcoEco casements score 5 in the WERS database? Based on your reply, I would expect that they score 0.2 like the Awning. https://awawers.net/res/reslist/ECOECO Re: WERS Air Infiltration 4May 15, 2019 10:24 am jonathan_k Thanks Ed, very informative (as always, I've read a lot of your posts). The casement was not separately tested, so it defaults to 5 and yet it uses the same profiles and seals.. The awning tested at 0.15, I have no idea why they rounded it up because others use 2 decimal places, and the awning has appeared in WERS at 0.15. There really is not a good reason to select based upon the air infiltration alone, the star rating and the software using these data are comprehensive and include the air infiltration. You can see this in identical Uw where the stars vary. "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy.
