Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 16, 2008 1:12 pm So we are finally in the process of organsing our window coverings. We are thinking of having cedar shutters to the front elevation (our bedroom), ensuite, bathroom and toilet.
We are beng given the option of the following to choose from: -68mm & 84mm Flat blade widths- -68mm & 90mm Elliptical widths- What on earth is the difference I though they were all the same! Which would you choose, does it make a difference???? Yes, I really need your help Re: plantation shutter option - next question!! 30/9 2Sep 16, 2008 7:27 pm miss81,

I believe one has an advantage over the other in terms of shutting the sun completely (i thing it's the elliptical one... forgot! ) and durability With the elliptical one, the louvre is thicker in the middle (thinner in the edge). The flat one has the same thickness throughout. They say the elliptical is stronger than the flat one. will have a look for some photos... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! this is worth reading if you're interested with Plantation Shutters... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: plantation shutter option - next question!! 30/9 5Sep 17, 2008 7:50 pm I thought it was just a different look. Elliptical are kind of rounded, yes thicker in the middle (I have those now) and will be having them in the newy as well. I have always thought the flat ones give a more traditional tropical look, like in Casablanca....that was tropicalish wasn't it???? I do like them both though. Re: plantation shutter option - next question!! 30/9 7Sep 30, 2008 9:18 pm thanks guys, will be going for the widest blade.
But now my question is do I paint or oil????? The manufacturer wants to know, as it apparently determines the type of timber they will use. Hmmm, what's the difference. Yes, I am completely clueless, sorry Re: plantation shutter option - next question!! 30/9 8Oct 01, 2008 8:36 pm It depends on the look you're after.
If you want white plantation shutters, then the obvious choice is painted (which looks great!). But in our house, we are going to have the Cedar one, which is best if oiled/stained. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! I LOVE shutters. We can't afford the $5000-$6000 at the moment it'd cost for us to get them on our lounge & master bedroom patio doors/windows, but one day (not too far away)...*staring off into the distance* Anyway, one question I had is does anyone have shutters AND curtains to frame them? I'm wondering if just having shutters might look a tad...harsh...on the inside. Not from the outside, but just the inside. The shutters I'm referring to aren't the ones you use as your only divider between inside & outside or for those inside/outside room type things, they'd be on the inside of proper windows. Do people think having some nice curtains pulled back all the time and secured with those nice tassle type things would look better than shutters with no "frame"? (the doors in question are sliding and quite large) How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! I don't but I get what you mean. Some of the PD houses have them. I think it looks good if you mix it up. Especially if your whole house has shutters. Adds a nice softness to it. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Hi, I'd like some advice on the best option please on the estimate options we've been provided from our builder. This is for the… 0 4066 Newbie question for flooring options. We are thinking of changing the flooring for bedrooms and passage area. Last time we looked at flooring options was almost 8years… 0 3517 Would also like an opinion from anyone that has used xcem over hebel for floors. Thanks 1 14221 |
