Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 28, 2018 9:26 am We’re about to start building a large double story house in Melbourne. Our energy report calls for some windows to be double glazed, but not all. I actually want to double glaze the whole house. However I wanted to know if excluding bathrooms, laundry, power rooms (to save a few bucks) is a good idea? Should I exclude these or should I double glaze everything. All of the windows I’m considering excluding are east, with only the main bathroom west. We are having a flat roof (contemporary home) with no eaves. Re: Double glazing whole house 2Jul 28, 2018 9:54 am I would double glaze whole house. Bathrooms tend to get condensation if it’s single glazed. Also consider laminated glass on one side. Re: Double glazing whole house 3Jul 28, 2018 10:01 am I guess you would rather do it all or don't do it all... I don't think that all your internal rooms are well insulated one from each other, so heat or cold will still be able to find its way into your house. Also, I believe bathrooms are probably the most important rooms to double glaze considering that most people absolutely hate getting into freezing bathrooms or power rooms during Melbourne winter mornings. Re: Double glazing whole house 4Jul 28, 2018 11:04 am Thanks. I didn’t think about these points. I’ll stick to original plan and go double glazed throughout. Double glaze them all, the future may require that, and you won't be saving much anyway.
