Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 04, 2008 11:14 am Another, probably silly sounding, question!
I have a number of internal doors that have been kicked through (don't ask!) and that I want to repair rather than replace if possible. They aren't anything special, just plain wooden and it doesn't bother me that they are a bit flimsy (in fact, something of an advantage that they CAN be kicked in - again, don't ask!) . I was wondering whether it would be feasible to just apply another sheet of very thin ply over the face of the doors and repaint then rehang. Does this sound do-able or would the fit be thrown out? Thanks What's wrong with acting like an ostrich and burying your head in the sand sometimes? Some days it can stop you from having to look at the lemmings! Re: Internal Doors Repairs 2Sep 04, 2008 6:53 pm If you want to paint them, a plain "Redicoat" door will cost you about the same as a thin sheet of ply. Re: Internal Doors Repairs 3Sep 05, 2008 11:35 pm Sounds like one seriously bad putty tat in your house. Would a cat flap help ?
Or is it the ostrich that's doing it? As per Lukes post, new doors will be lower cost, but more effort to cut in the new hinges and new locks etc. Steve Re: Internal Doors Repairs 4Sep 06, 2008 2:23 pm You don't generally have cut hinges in especially on cheap hollow core doors - use the non-mortice type hinge and simply screw them on.
A 2040x820x35 redicoat door will cost you about $25 Re: Internal Doors Repairs 6Oct 21, 2008 8:33 pm Sorry I have been a while responding to the suggestions which are much appreciated. I have decided to go with new doors (the "puddy tat" has left home/grown up and no, I shan't be getting a cat flap in the door - at 18 years old she can use her key and the bally front door same as everyone else!!) Does anyone have a suggestion for a good hydronic in slab heating speacialist who may be able to help me with an existing system and wether or not it may need a seperator… 0 4880 Okay, then the choice is really about the build quality of the door itself which means the brand name. Sorry I can't recommend one or the other so best to rely on comments… 5 3252 Thanks. Yeh ideally that would have been good, but have progressed too far now. Hoping some well placed internal walls fixed up into the battens will provide some… 2 5401 |
