Do opaque windows let enough light in? We are thinking of having 3 square (600x600) windows going up on the wall next to our staircase. The builder suggested opaque but I am worried they won't let enough light in, as they will be the only windows in a 7.5m hall.

Got a floorplan?
I don't think opaque windows reduce the light that much.
However your three windows only have a total area of 1.08sqm, less when you consider how the frames, which I think isn't very much at all for a 7.5m hall.

Just taken off the computer....best I could do at the moment! And I don't think the hallway is 7.5 long any more....I must have been thinking of an earlier version!!! But I am wondering if I would be better off with oblong windows rather than squares?

The size was the builder's suggestion and opaque for privacy from the next door neighbour. However as both were suggestions from the builder, I am open to other ideas!
Make you door standard width with a sidelight on each side. I agree with JB1 on the hall window, make it match the sidelights.
If this is not covered by the overloooking regs, then use plain glass in the stair windows.
Alternaively a skylight for the stairs.
