Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Aug 27, 2017 1:41 am I'm owner building again and this time have paid more attention to windows and energy efficiency than last time. I'm been researching windows for the past year because I'm pretty particular in what I want and while everyone will want to spend different sums, everyone wants value of money. Of course I checked out EcoEco windows because Ed here claims they are very good windows. While we don't have the same view of uPVC as a window material, he is super knowledgeable about the window industry and I found him to very honest and nice guy to boot. He has every right to be claim they are very good windows because they are. In the course of researching building materials, I've visited more than a few window suppliers and got quotes from some of them. I didn't get quotes from all of them, because the quality of some of them were average at best. EcoEco windows were equal cheapest of my quotes however superior to the vast majority of aluminum double glazed windows out there. I have found better aluminium windows however I'm talking thermally broken at 3x the price. Some other window suppliers at a higher prices couldn't manufacture the windows size I wanted without additional frames (mullions or transoms). Nor do many silicone glaze their windows, this is a nice feature. I also found the term 'semi-commercial' windows very questionably used. I also found a window supplier whose thermally broken aluminium windows have a worst U Value than EcoEco's (non-thermally broken) window! And after the EcoEco team patiently answered my numerous (and possibly silly) questions, I finally ordered my windows from them today much to their relief!. My larger windows are Casement. Surprisingly I don't think they charge extra over Awning windows (could be a few dollars more but could be so small it's insignificant). I also got Low E glass on West facing windows. I also got a large 3 panel stacker door- 2450mm H x 4690mm W. They can go slightly higher and wider per panel if required. Overall for the price I don't think you will find better windows for the money. Of course you can get cheaper or more expensive but I doubt you will get the same value for money. If you're building and can select your windows, you'll be doing yourself a large disservice if you don't at least check out EcoEco windows. They also do custom sizes and can manufacture windows/stacker doors not advertised on their rather basic website. I only found out after asking about my options. I'll post up photos later this year when I receive the windows. Note, Ed didn't request I post this up nor will I get a discount for my endorsement, but I should have asked before I paid my deposit! Next order Ed? Full disclosure, we're building 2 houses and I will most likely get uPVC windows for the other house. The reason is the orientation of the house and size of windows require more energy efficient windows to achieve 6 stars. uPVC is more than double than the EcoEco price, but still cheaper than proper thermally broken aluminium windows. I may consider getting a mix of uPVC and EcoEco windows to save on costs. The vast extra cost of uPVC provides little extra thermal benefits as there is a point of diminishing returns, but I don't have a choice. Happy to field any questions but will not name any competitors in public as I'm not here to badmouth any company. In case you're wondering, here are the energy rating for the windows. http://werscpd.net.barberry.arvixe.com/ ... rer=ECOECO Half my windows are Low E which gives a U value of 2.8 which is excellent for a non thermally broken window. Standard glass U value is 3.5 which is still very respectable. As Ed says, numbers don't lie. Personally, considering your layout (study/work desks in bedrooms), I don't think you have any other option but to leave NW windows and make them as big as possible e.g.… 7 10484 Hi, I'm planning to build a new house and wanted to get some feedback on the different window designs for a master bedroom.
