Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 30, 2017 11:34 am We've added a 3.6m wide triple stacker aluminium sliding door to the far side of our dining room (open plan) that will open to the side of the house with 2.4m to the fenceline. We also have a 2.7m triple aluminium stacker that will open to the end of the dining room to the covered alfresco area. After playing with our plans in SketchUp I am now unsure if it looks right. I want sliding stackers as opposed to bi-fold as I think they are easier to have flyscreens on them and that is a must for us (if anyone has a successful and easy way to add flyscreens to bi-folds please correct me). The triple stacker will have the far left pane fixed with the 2 right hand panes sliding in both instances. As it will have flysceens, is it going to look odd with 2 panes darker than the other (without the flyscreen), and would it look better if we changed it to a centre opening 4.2m wide 6 stacker aluminium sliding door - 2 sliding panes on each side of the centre opening so that it is symmetrical? The room itself is 5.1m long. All windows and doors will be double glazed. There will be a 2.4m long dining table running left to right in front of the doors so access around this is also to be considered... Thoughts on both which looks better and would be more practical would be much appreciated. Triple or six stacker sliding door in dining room? 2May 30, 2017 12:23 pm I personally prefer the look of fewer panels/fewer bars breaking up the stretch of glass. I guess if you are that worried about the colour difference you could potentially add a screen to the fixed panel of glass to even it out? Or alternatively, how often do you think you would use that door as opposed to the one the opens onto the alfresco? You could turn them into windows instead? For my house, I have gone two sets of sliders that open from the same corner, similar to your first example, except I have actually off centred my doors so they are both as close to the corner as possible. Re: HELP! Triple or six stacker sliding door in dining room? 3May 30, 2017 1:28 pm The colour of the flyscreen worries me less than the symmetry of your doors. I hate to see uneven panel sizes adjacent, it's similar to having the doors at different heights. If you are determined to have stackers, then the only way to overcome the uneven panels is to have identical stackers. However, if you decided to use sliding doors which are on a single track, then your sizes say... 3600 w and 2700 w, can be 4 panels and 3 panels respectively, and would look like this: - Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. The main reason for the stacker doors is for the "indoor-outdoor" feel it gives. I do like opening up the house as much as possible and most days over 20*C there will be windows and doors open. Living in Melbourne that is about 4-5 months of the year, and we will be running evaporative cooling so need to have some open when on 'cool'. The ideal is to have the opening as large as possible. With both of the sliding stacker options 1/3 is fixed and 2/3 opens. With the 6 stacker option, each panel is approx 700mm. We could downsize the alfresco stacker to 2.1m triple to make all panels the same width, but is 700mm each too small? And why would we want to make it smaller (less opening, less light)? I like the idea of 900mm each door as we are upgrading the main internal doors to 920mm each too, so adds to the continuity. I'm just not so sure about only having 1/2 and 1/3 opening in the single track options. Even if it was 2 panels at 2.7m, only 1/2 of the total width would open and it would have to be 2.4m wide to be each the same size panels (when paired with the 3.6m triple). P.S I beat you by a couple of months - back when we were doing our first build. Second Time 'Round Re: HELP! Triple or six stacker sliding door in dining room? 7May 31, 2017 11:41 am Understand... shout if you need any help. I figure a flyscreen for a bifold could be the roller blind type, one for each door pulled down form the top. Not 100%, but cheap and won't break like the cassette type. Triple or six stacker sliding door in dining room? 9Jun 01, 2017 8:10 pm The problem with the cassette flyscreen is the sheer area which is supported only around the perimeter. Even a gentle breeze applies a huge pressure to the flat lamina and can pull it out of the track. Also, children and pets can damage it. Tel. 1800 326 326 Sure looks like the type of track that I fitted to my house. My supplier said that the underside has a tray which drains to the front. They cut vertical slots in it. So as… 6 7900 I’m in a similar position except I’m after sliding 3 stacking doors. I am on a second-story apartment of which the balcony would not adequately fit any bi-fold or… 5 16150 |
