Re: Windows height from floor advice 7May 21, 2017 12:01 pm For the front facade, you are looking at aesthetics, and in my opinion, a full height window looks great, and aligns with the door opening. For the remainder, you need to think about wallspace. Most furniture is designed to go back-to-wall. In bedrooms, built-ins already take a lot of space. Furniture which sits in front of a full height window doesn't look right from inside or outside. But again IMO it is also important that a room which includes the front facade must have matching window heights for windows which are on another facade but seen at the same time. Then look at energy... double glazing is really mandatory, even if it's not needed to meet the star rating for your current design, it will be in future because energy ratings will become more demanding all the time, and all homes will need to be energy rated before sale in the near future. So now is the time to do that. Regarding cost, the greatest difference in the cost of windows is in the quality, not the glazing. Price range across different suppliers for the same product can vary 200% +. Price ranges for double glazing versus single can vary by 33%+. Where the price changes dramatically is in the type of window, and the brand... Low-E is an energy saver if used appropriately, but only in double glazing. Its real advantage is that it allows greater control of comfort. Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. The rooms let in a lot more natural light and the space has a nicer feel to it. You are slightly limited by what furniture you can put on front but I think the pros outweigh the cons. The heating and cooling transfer can be limited by lowE/double glazed glass and wise curtain/blind choices. - View my blog at www.waldorfgrangebuild.wordpress.com CDC Housing Code 3 When to apply Floor Area external face of wall vs Gross Floor Area internal face of wall.
