Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 02, 2017 6:15 pm we are installing alum windows with brick rendered walls and few walls having metal cladding. we are planning to put wallwrap first then cut "X" section to install the windows. 1) do you know if any installer follows sequence as shown in dupont instructions as below: http://www.dupont.com/products-and-serv ... ewrap.html 2) who is suppose to do the flashing? are insulation guys suppose to do it, they will be installing wallwrap or window installer? I know it's not common to put too much emphasis on flashing but we like to be safe than sorry. builder is not keen to do it may be he hasn't done it before but if we found specialist we'll get it done ourselves. thanks in advance. Re: windows flashing how to do it properly ? 2May 10, 2017 12:02 pm Hi In Australia the windows and construction methods are different. The Dupont video is about US windows and construction. How the seal is achieved depends on the windows being installed. If you are using traditional revealed windows, then I would incorporate a damp proof membrane (say 500mm wide) between the reveal and the window attachment, then when the window is installed, I would tape this to the sarking or whatever the wrap is to be. If this is the method, then the window supplier would need to fit the membrane, and the carpenter/installer would tape the membrane to the wrap. Who does what is up to you, you are paying. Specify what you want and ask for a quotation. During construction, have them take photographs of each window as it is installed. Some people add a "Z" shaped metal flash to the head of the window where it is flush with the wall, but in any case, the window needs to be caulked all round. I was under the impression the kit would basically just slide into the frame, but it looks like there is some cutting involved. I’m not particularly handy, so it might just be best for me to hire a great contractor to make sure the job gets done properly. Thanks for the awesome information!
