As it was our very first new house build - and the last - we were totally clueless ! Consequently, we have been living in a house with far too many windows in an open plan design downstairs, which causes heat to escape and therefore incurs a huge electricity bill. Dumb, dumb, dumb ! Luckily we live in Sydney, so don't get freezing winters like say, Melbourne. Nevertheless, it does get bl***y cold. Sooooo........short of ripping out the windows and replacing with a double-glazed option , has anyone in Sydney installed window tinting and has it been effective in reducing heat loss ? Or.... is there anyone out there with tinting experience who can truthfully vouch for its effectiveness in minimising heat loss ? Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Window Tinting to reduce heat loss - ANY GOOD ??!! 2Apr 27, 2017 9:06 pm No experience with tinting (which, by the way, I am sceptical about) but many years ago we did install supplementary acrylic glazing in our 1930 timber cottage that is quite effective. We are located in Cooma and the gentleman drove all the way from Sydney to do the install, but I suspect that was early in the company's life. Just one other issue, are your windows thermally un-broken Aluminium? If so, you might find that you are suffering losses and gains as much through the frames as the glass. Double glazing is your only alternative, secondary glazing costs about the same, and does not add value to your home. Go with double...
