Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Apr 25, 2017 12:48 pm Hey guys, first time posting here so hopefully I've found the right place. I've found a vault room inside an old foundry to use as an art studio, but it really needs a second exit installed. The door will allow light, air and act as a fire escape as well. However I wanted some advice on the structural integrity before committing myself to anything. This is the wall in question: https://ibb.co/g7PBLk The room was a vault, so the wall is double brick on the outside, and equally as thick concrete on the inside, with 2 layers of steel reinforcing mesh. The building is 2 storeys, but with very high factory ceilings. All concrete walls and I believe a tin roof. The vault is concrete and brick on all 4 walls, ceiling and floor. Inside the wall (this is a hole that was cut for an air conditioning unit, you can see in the above photo): https://ibb.co/e5Z0D5 Ideally I would love to put in a sliding glass door (basic patio/back door variety). But that would require a 2m wide hole, or thereabouts. I'm wondering if this would be safe to do? Any advice on how to proceed would be awesome. Many thanks.
