Hi guys,
I'm currently undertaking a renovation and my aluminium doors have arrived with pre-cut and fitted door hardware and locks.
I believe they are Lockwood optimum mortice locks with single point locking (i.e., the latch becomes rigid when locked, no bolt) with Lockwood palladium hardware. I had been planning on fitting an electric strike to this door as it is the main thoroughfare to the garage with the kids and shopping, would be super handy not to fumble with keys all the time. The door is aluminium frame, and opens out.
Unfortunately, after a long discussion with my door hardware supplier, it would appear that this lock is not at all suitable for use with an electric strike (I actually got excited and purchased the homelock EL-100, thinking all should be fine - link here: http://www.homelock.com.au), as when it is rigid, it won't return into the latch. He was unable to offer me any other solutions, apart from perhaps a magnetic door lock. The sticking point apparently is the lack of a narrow dead latch mortice lock (all his commercial ones were too wide)
I've managed to find a commercial mortice lock with a dead-latch which *should* fit: link here: http://www.designerdoorware.com.au/cata ... mm-backset
The specs on the website say it is 25mm wide, and the lockwood optimum is 24mm. I measured-up on site today, and it looks like 25 *should* just fit.
However, the cut-out of the existing Lockwood optimum is too large for this NS-3000, so the NS-3000 doesn't really have anything to screw into with the existing door cut-outs. So.... these are my questions:
Would the NS-3000 lock be suitable for use with an electric strike like the home lock EL-100?
If so, can I some how repair the pre-cut aluminium door (tig-weld,welt some material back on, fill gaps with wood inside the frame???) and retro-fit the NS-3000?
If none of the above are feasible, any other route for getting keyless entry/exit working for a residential aluminium door already pre-fitted with the Lockwood optimum hardware?
Any recommendations for the magnetic lock route?
We are renovating in Kew, Victoria.
Thanks heaps in advance!!
