Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Aug 15, 2008 1:55 pm Hello, I am very new to renovating and have some interior windows which need repainting. The existing paint is fairly old and thick and cracked in places. I have taken the loose paint off with a scraper (less than 5% has come off) and am wanting to know the best way to prepare the surface for repainting.
The wooden windows are fairly large and there are quite a lot of intricate parts that might be difficult to get to. Could I please have your opinion on the best way to tackle this. I bought a mouse sander yesterday and haven't strated to use this yet. I had planed to use the mouse sander and then do the rest by hand. But would a heat gun be better? Thanks so much! Re: Repainting Interior Windows - Help Needed Please! 2Aug 17, 2008 6:48 am Be careful with a heat gun - you may crack the glass.
do you want / need to strip them right back.? You could use paint stripper but the general task is to remove the old flaking paint like you have done, and then to sand by hand and feather the edges back on the old paint so the varying thickness does not stand out too much and to then simply repaint them.
