Browse Forums Windows & Doors Re: Tinting double glazed windows 2Mar 02, 2017 3:42 pm Hello Gaudi, Are these going to be new windows or existing ? If these are new products you can specify laminated glass as part of the IGU which can assist in reducing the UV radiation by ~99%. UV Radiation isn't the only cause of fading as the heat itself can also assist in bleaching of furniture and flooring. Having said that, the laminate and reduction of UV will obviously make a substantial difference. There are also other speciliased glass coatings which can assist in reducing the solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) through the pane in combination with laminates to provide further protection. If they are existing windows, you want to be careful about tinting over float glass (i.e. non-toughened). Whilst toughened glass is more resilient, float glass with tint will absorb heat differently across the pane and can be at risk of causing thermal stress which will crack the glass unit. Hope this helps! This does helps a lot. I thought of tinting or coating after I got the keys to my house in Jan. I wish I had thought of coating the windows and investigated this pre project build. They are existing windows. Most of my double glazed windows are toughened. Just one is not. So toughened double glazed glass is OK to tint? Thanks again Re: Tinting double glazed windows 4Mar 06, 2017 9:24 am Hello Gaudi, Adding the tint afterwards will always increase the risk of thermal stress/cracking - however in toughened glass its very unlikely to occur. I would suggest contacting your window supplier to discuss with them and make sure these changes will not impact upon your warranty.
