Here is the front facade: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We are leaning towards: - Plantation shutters to all front/side timber windows - South-facing Issue with our timber windows is the locks: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Although some of the suppliers who are familiar with this kind of window reckons that it is doable to put in plantation shutters. - sliding plantation shutters to our french timber doors to master bed Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We also love Luxaflex's LUminette, but we think that once we use plantation to our ground floor windows, we should use the same to our upstairs windows/doors. Notice the small but long timber windows to the upper floor? That's in the ensuite. We are thinking of just leaving it uncovered because no one would see us in the shower anyway. The house in front is a single-storey. Just thinking of putting a tint on it. What do you think? - double roller blinds to the high stair windows - East-facing - Luxaflex's Luminette or Panel Glides or Roman Blinds to the bi-fold and sliding doors to Family and Dining areas http://www.luxaflex.com.au/au/en/explor ... ette/sb.cn We love our vertical blinds ( great control of light coming in ) in the current place that we're renting, but don't like how it looks. We thought that the Luminette looks great and functions as a vertical blind - for the rest of the house, we are going to leave 'em uncovered after handover. We're really undecided. The major decision to make is with the front/side timber windows. If we would go with Plantation, then we have to order now, as we have a tentative handover date of 4-6 weeks from now. Would greatly appreciate your inputs... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Help!!! Which window coverings to use? 4Aug 11, 2008 5:02 pm VJ I'm probably not going to help much. I love the look of plantation shutters but I find they block way too much light even when they are open. Is there a lot of light getting in because maybe the plantation shutters will leave everything a bit dark?
Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Help!!! Which window coverings to use? 5Aug 11, 2008 5:12 pm Oh, just to add, the room downstairs with the small window is the mud room, while the other one with the big window is the HT. This means, we need to make the area dark.
The whole upstairs is the master bedroom (to the right) and Ensuite (to the left with the small but long window). We love the look of the Plantation shutters due to the timber windows.. it would look great. Very costly though. We also like the Luminette and Roman Blinds. If we put in Luminette to the master bed, which is very ideal, as it would let the light in but can still be closed during night (same as vertical blinds), we should also put in Luminette in the HT area. That's not advisable, I reckon. Two rooms to the front of the house, master to upstairs, HT to downstairs, both have different window coverings need. One needs some light, the other needs to be dark! Or would it look weird if we have Luminette upstairs and Plantation shutters downstairs? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! It's south facing.. so I suppose not much light. Quote: We have locks on our windoes like yours and we have plantation shutters. Our living area/alfresco faces south and we still get heaps of light......You can play arond with the way they are slanted and may find this makes a diffrence too, you can also get different sized slats. Which window coverings to use? 9Aug 11, 2008 5:46 pm With the light issue, I've just noticed in display homes I play around with them and the room still seems dark. Then I swing the plantation shutter away from the window on its hinge and the room lights up.
But I wouldn't want to have the shutter swung into the room when I wanted lots of light and that's what turned me off them. I still love how they look though. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Help!!! Which window coverings to use? 10Aug 11, 2008 6:26 pm I love love love plantation shutters!! But we decided not to use them on our home, because when I see them on display homes they sometimes look 'too much' if that is the right word.
We have opted for Luxaflex dual roller blinds to keep with the contemporary minimilistic look we want for the home. I like the lumanette you put up and I also like the panel glides...I think you are lucky in that a number of window coverings would suit your style of home. What colour plantation shutters were you thinking of? My karma ran over your dogma Re: Help!!! Which window coverings to use? 11Aug 11, 2008 6:49 pm if you can afford them great
they both are pricey though what bout good ole timber venetians for um bedroom and mud room also the bathroom if necessary and planation shutters/sliding ones to the HT and the french door thingie actually where does french doors go...not sure bout them good luck, window coverings are the hardest ever gorgeous house btw!!! Re: Help!!! Which window coverings to use? 12Aug 11, 2008 6:59 pm Hi VJ,
I think the shutters would suit the house better from the outside. BUT….I do love the Luminettes, there so classy for the internals. My choice would be the timber shutters. Its true what rellie said, you can adjust the louvers to let more light in. Also what bec said is a good option for cost. Shutters on the main windows and timber venetians on the others that you have concerns about. From the outside you shouldn’t be able to tell. I have a roman with a pelmet on both windows (one a sliding door) Its the fabric I don't like I was rushed into choosing it as we were only going to do the kids bedroom's, but at the last minute decided to ours as well, so I didn't have much time to decide. Paula Re: Help!!! Which window coverings to use? 14Aug 11, 2008 8:27 pm Paula….I bet that roman on the slider is pain in the you know where! But this one is not so bad, and I had a stop thingy put on the cord which makes it very easy. I really don't like it, that's why I haven't put a pic up!! DH said I just have to live with it Paula Re: Help!!! Which window coverings to use? 16Aug 11, 2008 9:40 pm Thanks everyone for your inputs.
You are really a great help! We are going to decide within the week whether to go ahead with the Plantation shutters or not. Because if we are, we need to order it now.. as it will take 4-8 weeks (depending on supplier) to order/make them. Quote: and planation shutters/sliding ones to the HT and the french door thingie actually where does french doors go...not sure bout them bec, The french doors I was referring was the two timber doors to the master bed/balcony. I would love to have the Luminette to cover those doors.. to let some lights in but still maintain some privacy during the day... but if we go for plantation downstairs, we might have to go plantation upstairs too. Some friends told us how hard it is to clean the venetians. They said dust can easily be seen and it's a pain to clean them. What colour plantation shutters were you thinking of? Bel, I always thought you would be having the white Plantation shutters!!!! Anyway, we will also use dual roller blinds for the long stairs windows. This is because it would be hard to clean it, so a low-maintenance window covering is the best option for that window. Also, dual roller blinds so we can use either one or both roller blinds depending on the day. Re: the colour of plantation shutters, we are thinking of a mid to dark Cedar or the chocolate one. I think the timber shutters will look amazing on your home My karma ran over your dogma Re: Help!!! Which window coverings to use? 19Oct 09, 2008 10:05 pm We have these awesome semi-translucent blinds in our ensuite. Wasn't going to put anything in there as it's not facing the street or anything, but the translucent lets the light in and no-one can see in from outside. I think it's a 50% blockout. Just love it and can really recommend for your ensuite. it's a roller blind and it was inexpensive. We used www.sanctuaryblinds.com
