I think I understand most of the pros and cons of each of them. What is not clear to me is which one would be the most of effective when comes to keeping a 2 storey house cool in a hot climate like Brisbane? As to the thermal specs, a thermally broken UPVC window with double glazing is probably the best. We are building in North QLD too. We have opted for tinted grey glass too to reduce the thermal heat. Failing that, keep windows to a minimum on the North and West, and use Low-E (in double glazing) those too.
