Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Mar 21, 2016 9:06 am We are just finishing our outdoor works (carpentry maintenance, landscaping, fencing, painting) and the time has come to decide on a screen door. We are in an Edwardian and the door is looking spectacular with new leadlights, high gloss paint, etc - but after some agonising we have decided to install a screen door for the purposes of security when we are opening the door to strangers (and moreover, our kids are opening the door to strangers!). My question is about the hingeing of the doors. Our front door latches on the left, and swings inwards. There is no handle - just a keyed lock flush to the door surface. To the left of the door there is a narrow sidelight with a turn-style doorbell, and then there is an adjoining wall sitting at 90 degrees to the door. The right side of the door has no perpendicular wall. My feeling is to hinge the screen door on the left (ie opposite to the front door) because of the perpendicular wall. Any thoughts? It is quite sheltered, so not much prevailing wind to think about. I should have followed up on this thread.
