What is a double keyed deadlock?

We have standard sliding doors at back with a lock you can use key in. Is this a deadlock? What is a double keyed deadlock? Deadlocks 2Mar 17, 2016 6:13 pm No it isn't a deadlock. Sometimes the word deadbolt is confused with deadlock though. A deadlock is simply one that latches after you close the door without having to do anything extra. A deadbolt is one where you have to turn the cylinder after closing the door and they are usually through the frame. Deadlocks can latch in the frame or in something attached to the frame. A double keyed deadlock is one that has a key on both sides to lock or unlock it. Personally I think that definition for insurance is one that can't be opened with out a key inside or out and has nothing to do with where the "bolt" connects but is different to the standard lock on a sliding door. Sent from an iPhone please excuse the ridiculous spell correcting software. My forum thread is at viewtopic.php?t=74944 Re: Deadlocks 3Mar 21, 2016 9:48 am The BigHouse, I don't really agree with your explanation. My experience is deadlock and deadbolt are interchangeable terms. Though do agree the term refers to a lock that latches when closed. By latch I mean the bolt cannot be retracted except by handle or key. Eg you cannot get a screw driver in and push the bolt back to defeat the handle or key. And OP double keyed means you need a key on each side. Some deadlocks/bolts have key out but a handled inside, these are single keyed. Though some newer ones have two stage locks where you can lock once and the internal handle will work, but lock again and you need a key on both sides. Re: Deadlocks 4Mar 21, 2016 2:48 pm So I confirmed with insurance company what they meant. Basically if someone was to break in through a window could they unlock a door from inside and carry out tv? Need to be able to lock/unlock door with key from both outside and inside. Re: Deadlocks 5Mar 21, 2016 5:25 pm I was about to post something similar. What they want is a lock that when locked by key can not be simply opened by flicking a latch from the inside. They do make these for glass sliding doors now whereas in the past they were only keyed from the outside. |
