Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jun 01, 2015 11:17 am Hiya, my name is Kishanie. I'm stressing because of conflicting information. Has anyone had personal experience importing DG windows and doors direct, and then finding an installer, then completing installation. After reading hours of forums on whirlpool, and homeone, I am surprised nobody has explicitly explained the steps and limitations of importing. I have had a quote from a local reseller of YY Shanghai Windows. And also a direct export price. My question is in relation to installation. Three of my window/door sets are 6.4m2 , 5.2m2 and 4.8m2 How in gods name would we install at 35kg per metre square if YY shanghai delivered these assembled? The heavy windows set is 190kg, and awkward. Door Window Profile : 86mm Thermal Break Aluminium Profile . 5 mm + 9 A+ 5 mm Double Glazed Tempered Glass CASE 1: The local supplier said the frames would come blank, then the windows and doors would be delivered to site un-assembled. The builder would then fix windows and doors to frames. What about labour and time. CASE 2" YY Shanghai said labour costs would be very high, and all windows and doors will be assembled. CASE 3 Pay an extra $20,000 and have glazed onsite. I simply do not know what to do? Kish. Re: Stressing about heavy DG windows, who? 2Jun 01, 2015 10:24 pm Well then how much are you saving and what is your recourse if something goes wrong. Looked into it briefly and decided that I would rather pay an expert. There are a few that have gone your route but have not seen a detailed how to. Good luck Re: Stressing about heavy DG windows, who? 3Feb 09, 2016 7:41 am I was looking at importing DG from China as well as a builder friend of mine had successfully imported his for his own place. He said that locally it would have cost him 40k if I recall correctly but cost him around 23k inc all taxes and fees. When I received quotes, AUD was and is still low compared to when he imported, then I added all the fees + installation and it came to the same local price, perhaps even more. Ended up going with someone local which in hindsight was a good choice as we needed to chop and change some of the windows, so we had the manufacturers come on site a couple of times. Wouldn't have been possible if imported + all the stress. Do your sums properly. If the price difference is 10-20%, I would reconsider. All the best. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Custom owner build in Hume - VIC - Tiling Stage http://goo.gl/qpPglB Re: Stressing about heavy DG windows, who? 4Feb 12, 2016 7:03 pm You can install large windows with a machine or a crane. These can be hired. Or you can get a large number of strong men to manouvre them on site. Licensed and insured glaziers do this all the time, so while its not easy, its shouldnt cause any stress either. Perhaps the manufacturer can arrange for a consultant to fly out to manage the process on site, so there is a direct line of responsibility, why not ask - the worst thing is they will say No. Lets hope nothing breaks because China is far away.
