Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 27, 2015 12:42 am Hi all, I asked my builder to provide me with a 1200 entry door, which they did and charged me about $800 which was not bad. Although I noticed it when I signed the quote, the meaning did not really sink in. They have a note on the line item for the door stating that it is hinged and that the door should be installed on a pivot system and installing it any other way voids the warranty. Why this did not sink in with me, I just don't know. Anyway, the question I have is that I have seen many 1200 doors in display homes mounted on hinges. Is it worth shelling out for the Pivot system or will the hinges suffice? As a guide, how much extra should I pay for a pivot system? Thanks! Re: 1200 Door on hinges 2Sep 28, 2015 12:27 am Hi, I'm a builder myself and have hung heaps of 1200 wide doors on hinges including my own front door which I did 6 years ago. Haven't had a problem with them yet. I space my 4 hinges out evenly and use 100mm stainless architectural hinges. Can't comment on the pivot system, sorry. Never used one. A lot comes down to the chippy hanging the door and the door jamb. As long as the jamb stile on the hinge side is well fixed to the frame, I can't see any problems. Yes, I had already tried searching those. In the end I am fabricating my own. 4 4175 920 was enough to get the furniture in. We live in a pretty safe area and it’s great to see people walking to the front door. We’re not too fussed about people… 4 1430 Black on light wood does look good. Not sure if it will be as long lasting as a steel finish? 6 6357 |
